It's a chop.

The tail light magically got smaller in the center frame...

I wonder what they would do if you called them up, and asked them to turn your crossfire into the one they have advertised... looking through the rest of the cars they actually did, they appear to be very crude and amature in the fabricating business.

Most likely can be done fairly easy.......remember that the car started as a retractable hardtop SLK

The bottom half of the right hand palm tree trunk has gone and so has a part of the building behind it. Amazing what shoddy jobs people do. LOL

Cool Re: Retractable hardtop for the crossfire!

Saw this about 5 years ago, there was some discussion on the other forum. The picture is "photo-chopped", I actually called the company at the time and they had never done a conversion on a Crossfire. They wanted to know if I would allow them to use my Roadster Limited as a prototype. I thought about it but declined when they told that I would be doing it at my own risk...no recourse if they screwed the car up.

Fake photos or not, it's entirely possible. I sent them an inquiry on the cost. We'll see what they come back with.

The question is, how much would you pay for a retractable hardtop?

You think you have no "trunk" area now, even if this thing came to life, I doubt very much that a retractable top would fit our cars in the rear space provided. True, the SLK is a hardtop convertible, but that car's top is relatively flat, so the pieces; either 2 or three as posted above could be "stackable" The curvaceousness of our cars wouldn't allow for a compact "stackable" top so even collapsed, it'd be very tall.

Another note, take a look at a Volvo C70 (I only list this car because I have experience in it). If that car gets into an accident where the top is damaged in some way, most insurance agencies total the car based solely on the top. New tops (I've replaced two whole assemblies) cost approximately 12,000$. They come in a crate and the top with paint, hardware, etc weighs in at about 600 lbs.

The supplier for the top is the same between the BMW 1 series, Volvo C70, and that Pontiac (Can't remember the name for the life of me....)

Just throwing that out there...

Justin
