I had my tail lights painted using the following process:

1. black pigment mixed with clear X 2 coats wet sanded between coats.
2. clear X 6 coats wet sanded between coats.

I need to get some pics in direct sunlight to show the true effect of the deepness of the tint, and just how clear the red shows through the tint. These pictures were taken after the sun had went behind my house and was hidden by the trees. Even in these it is apparent at the difference in the opacity based on the angle and lighting.

The distorted look in the tail lights are just a reflection of the overcast sky. These lights have a very deep look to them in person with the 6 layers of clear. I will try to get some better pics in a day or two. Photography is not one of my strong suits.

Yep, and I still love the sound of my screaming loud *** muffler. LOL Did you also notice my stubby antenna? That is new..... I like it much better than the tall OEM antenna

Ok, I went back out and took a pick with the lights on. It is a that time where it is not light and not dark yet, and I suck. But, here it is with the lights on, brake on, and in reverse.

I am not a big fan of tinted tails, I guess because of the saftey reasons, but on your black car, they do go well together and it looks like a great job. Tinted tails look best on dark colored cars. Nice job.

No I did not Steve. The guy that did it is a friend of a guy that I work with. Scotty, the guy that painted it works for a Mustang restoration shop that does high end restorations/resto mods. They primarily restore Shelby Cobra's and other sought after Mustangs. Their work has been featured on the covers of several magazines, and the shop owner was recently on Speed show Trucks. Anyway, it was done in their paint booth. I got a deal on it as I am a friend of a friend. LOL I paid $50 to get both lights done.

 

And I look forward to a crazy *** dude in a silver SLK55 giving me a ride through the tail this fall. It will be interesting to see if my legs will be stable enough to walk afterwards.

 

I worry about the loss of light also. You can add polorized filter on the light and get blacker with much brighter lamp light. Circularlized poloroid film would be the best, you have it on most LCD displays, pull out your polorized glasses and rotate your display 360 degrees. Woody Been working with this for over a year and no one has noticed the effects. Testing Testing......Woody

I hear ya Woody. I am going to order some LEDs for the rear. I doubt I will have any issues with those installed. Also, the pics that I took do not do justice for how bright they are in person. I will try to get some better day time pics. In person and during the day time, the tails look very red/white, with a slight smoke tint to them.

 

dont drive in FL with them i had vinyl tint on mine was stopped by the FHP an was told if they are vinyl an you can take it off right now i will not write a 116.00 fine have a nice day so off they came

 

Bob, I agree with James, also as a safety issue. However they do look great on your awsome black roadster. I will be looking forward to seeing the car and you at the Dragon. Looks like some first class help ypu have on the wheels. You can never start them too early.

Thanks guys, and yeah...... Trevor is my helper and running buddy. He helped daddy mow the yard today too. He always wants to do what daddy does. Most people my age have grand kids, but I really enjoy having a 2 yo and a 5 yo at this point in my life. I feel blessed to have them.

 

yes sir, and you are a lot more relaxed, and have more time for them. I didn't spend enough time with my 3 sons working more than one job during those years...can't get those years back...enjoy my friend...and I do like those lights. You will have the pods before next weekend, so get ready....

 

I am looking forward to getting the pods Doc. Trevor and I just went for a ride to pick a pizza up in the XFire. First time I have driven her in over a month. And yes.... When I was in my 20's, I was sky diving, repelling, snow skiing, water skiing, and traveling every chance I got. Basically anything that involved adrenalin and/or adventure. I am at a point now that I can truly enjoy them.

Oh, and the best part is that he can help me with things that my old body doesn't look as kindly upon anymore. I would not have appreciated that in my younger years.
