Bright lights not working - won't pass inspection

My bright lights aren't working and my car is due for an inspection this month, which I've been told the car won't pass because of the lights. Before I spend $130 getting the problem diagnosed, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what would cause this to happen. I don't believe both bulbs are out because it seems unlikely that they'd go out at the same time. I'm thinking it's a connection problem because the lights came on once after the problem started. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

They are on a separate fuse and have their own relay.

I have the same problem, I've read here that its a combination of the headlight switch and turn signal stalk on the column. I've replaced the headlight switch but it didn't fix the problem now I'm looking into the turn signal stalk. You might also want to look at this thread, it lists a couple part number and has a great comment from our friend maxcichon. Good luck

Ok, so based on what I'm reading, it seems that I'm going to have to pay for the diagnostics test because it looks like it could be a number of things. This stuff happens every year just before inspection time. Good grief.

Thanks for the help, as always everyone.

If you look at the repair manual it will explain how to check out the Illumination Module (light switch) and it will save you money. The switch is an expensive piece of gear and for sure they will make you pay list price for it. These switches are available from wrecks on ebay and if that is the problem it will be much less expensive.

Hey, thanks. I'll definitely look into that.
