Default Tinted Tails, New Hub Covers & More

Finished up a few more mods!!!

First, I followed a few others lead by removing the stock center caps from the wheels. I just wasn't quite sold on displaying the Mercedes badge so I had a custom one made up.

YEP! The Karmann Logo!

Next finally got the Tails, 3rd Brake and side markers tinted...

Continued....

They are just a touch darker than I actually wanted... Well, darker the better as far as looks but am a bit afraid of running into issues with police officers... We shall see, if I do I will get another set done up a shade lighter.

The area over the back-up bulbs are actually a few shades lighter to assist in maintaining safe back-up luminance. Backed down a driveway in the woods tonight without issue at all.

And last but not least - installed my leather / stainless arm rest...

JMO the tinted lights and markers look great. The wheel caps, not so much.

Thanks! The interesting thing about the wheel caps is that I did not care much for the look of the factory covers removed when looking at ANY of the pictures of it done... Then after a day of working on the car I forgot to put them back on and drove away from the shop. Once I looked back and saw them missing I REALLY liked the look! I even tried to talk myself out of it by going back and looking at other pictures again but by this time something had changed and it just looked better to me all the way around.

I just needed to find a logo or center cap that would work for me... Hence the Karmann Logo. I beleive I am set on the logo, not sure if the decal itself is perfect for me. The chrome look background is part of it, also considering going from a black logo to a dark or maybe even a medium gray to tone down the contrast some, and part of me just doesnt like the fact that it is a decal. I have a back-up path I can take to get much better ones made, just dont have the money to make it happen right away and would like to keep them on as is for now while I make up my mind.

I am curious on the hub covers... Is it just that everyone so far likes the full on cover (ie no lugs showing) better or is it the design of the logo / cover itself?

I ask because I know many like the full cover off, I first noticed it on here to begin with.

Not that it is going to change my mind much, just trying to figure out if I was to go further and maybe get some truly custom ones made up (thinking Billet alluminum) , whether or not I should show them off at that point or not.

I Love the look, but the fit was less than perfect... Not a HUGE deal it just took longer to install than it should have but looking at it now it looks perfect....

I wouldnt mind if they offered a version with some padding, but it is still softer than the stock hard plastic!

They have some other cool stuff. I got a few other small things from them just havent had a chance to install them;

IMO I appreciate the originality of the design, but they appear to be chrome while the rest of the wheel center is silver/machined. Bad mojo to most...

Having said that, the only other alternative is to order completely blank caps, or the ////AMG version on ebay. They look great but you will catch hell from the AMG purists (yes, the same purists that have ordered "Chrysler" parts for their cars )

Well in full disclosure, I actually asked for SILVER back ground not Chrome / Reflective... Thats exactly why I said I wasnt sold on them yet, but can't decide if I want to go back to the same place or just go down the path of getting real ones made in billet aluminum...

I have a set of the AMG ones from eBay here... I started down that path but it just did not feel right. The Karman logo feels right to me, just still working out the details.

Not off subject at all, that was one of the mods I threw in the mix here... Unfortunately it isnt padded, I had hoped it would be but it isnt. Its actually just leather wrapped... It is softer than the plactic peice but not much. I may take it to an upholstery place and have them upgrade it a bit more....

leather stainless arm rest, sorry missed when browsing! I have been trying to figure out a way for a while now to keep the OEM look but add some comfort to that arm rest. I will be interested to see how it comes out if you take it to the upholstery shop. I thought about having the whole center done in leather... but then I knew I would be upset if it did not flow with the dash.
