Default Just a Biker

I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line.
But you didn't see me put an extra $20.00 in the collection plate last Sunday.

I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk.
But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local mall.

I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief.

I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by.
But you didn't see me riding behind you when
you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window.

I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children.
But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless.

I saw you stare at my long hair.
But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.

I saw you roll your eyes at our leather jackets and gloves.
But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none.

I saw you look in fright at my tattoos.
But you didn't see me cry as my children were born and I had their names written on my arms and in my heart.

I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere.
But you didn't see me going home to be with my family.

I saw you complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.
But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you yelling at your kids in the car.
But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me.

I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road.
But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you race down the road in the rain.
But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go to work.

I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time.
But you didn't see me trying to turn right.

I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in
But you didn't see me leave the road.

I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass.
But you didn't see me. I wasn't there.

I saw you go home to your family.
But you didn't see me.

Because I died that day you cut me off.
I was just a biker.
A person with friends and a family.
But you didn't see me.

I don't own a bike. The 1st (and last) time I tried to ride a bike, that front tire went to the sky and there I am trying to hold up a 600 Ninja on one tire.

I can appreciate what was said...

Thanks, I will forward it to a couple of friends. I lost one of my best friends a few years ago and it stays with me. He left behind his 10 year old daughter who he named "Harley". Yes, he was into it. The day she was born he purchased a new Harley for her, pickeled it, so that they could ride together on her 16th birthday.

I won't get into the Helmet Law discussion here !
But I think this poem pretains to any one who has strattled 700lbs of raging two wheeled fury ! But it's not really about the biker, whether it be a tatted, iron butt, Harley forever, rider or the weekend warrior who only rides when the weather is 70 degrees, sun shiney with zero percent chance of rain. It's about the cage driving idiots who could care less if they spit out the window, change lanes into a pack of bikes and have no regard outside of their lil four wheeled personnel piece of rollin real estate.
It's not something you have to read in between the lines. We're out there, please be more aware !

Just my Dos Centavos !

Had a black Interstate like your red one. Loved it. Had a Yamaha VMAX, Honda 750, BMW 1200, Kawasaki 1600, Harley Ultra Glide Anniversary. While divorced I was fearless. Got married and started worrying about all the other drivers on the road. Sold 'em all.

I always give bikers a lot of room. I'm afraid to be the one to run them over if they dump it.

And stop making laws to protect people from themselves. If they want to risk brain damage it's their business.

You are right that it's their business..... To a point. That point being anyone acting a fool whether it be lack of safety gear, driving habits, etc. and end up in a hospital for whatever the reason. I end up at that same hospital because some stray bullet hits me from the drug war down the street and I end up on the morge slab because of all the busy doctors working on morons....

How will a helmet save a biker from a hospital visit? He'll be there helmet or not. If you're lucky (and he isn't) he'll go straight to the fridge after planting his head in a car door, and you'll get the medical attention you need.

Kind of a dark way to look at it... but I'll take any stance to opposed more regulatory laws.

I am old enough to know I will not take a chance on a bike niether will my children, I have seen many supid accidents the last being a biker being decapataited by a farm machine...

I think the biker needs to look out for himself as he is out numbered by cars...... and yes I have to say we get many in as donars for transplants........ the Drs.... seem to love the no helmet law....me I dont care either way as i will not be on a bike.......so no conflict there...

Then maybe you should stay outta that part of town if you're worried about stray bullets ! Personally I worry about the fool drivin down the road at Hi-way speeds, sippin on a cup of coffee, talkin on a cell phone, stereo crankin out 20K decibels and not payin so much as an ounce of attention to the bike they just forced off the road into a guardrail because they were the FREAKIN MORON !

And that's my Dos Centavos !!!
