German tank recovered from the lake after 62 years
Here is the story of the tank and pictures click here
Too bad its a captured Russian T-34 tank. I thought it looked strange when scrolling through the first few pix. A Panzer or a Tiger would have been an extremely rare find, especially in that condition. Nonetheless, a very cool find. Thanks for the pix.
Has anyone ever seen the show called "tank overhall"? Makes car restoration look like you're building a revell plastic model kit.
One of the guys from the U.K. tank resto shop drives a Crossfire. I saw it once when he was being interviewed while leaning against it.

I hope those Germans used the same steel for our XFires. We will have them for a long time if they did.

"The latest news about T-34. Have successfully started the diesel engine not replacing any spare part. Have replaced only bearings on skating rolls. Assembly of the tank will soon come to the end and it will be ready to trial runs. It is planned in the following season to carry on tourists and to show it as a working exhibit of our museum."
I thought the Russians threw these together! What an engine!

The T-34 was not a bad tank......it was just outclassed in every way by the German armor.
The George Patton museum of armor On Fort Knox is a great place to visit if you gave any interest in tanks.

And of course....the big daddy of them all King Tiger HPIM0335.JPGHPIM0337.JPG
Also of interest is the American T-28 Super Heavy Tank......prototype only.

The German tanks were hugely out numbered later in the war and when a German tank broke down it tended to stay down.
Sort of reminds me of the modern U.S. military. We'll be alright in a short engagement, but I think we could end up in the same boat as the Germans in any type of large scale protracted war. I'm sure China could whip up a modern version of the T-34 in huge numbers just as we did in WWII.
