Default Phil Hill, America's first F1 Champ - RIP

Phil passed away last night, age 81, from complications associated with Parkinson's disease.

I am a huge fan of classic motorsports and have downloaded gigabytes of videos documenting pre war Grand Prix racing, the rebirth of motorsports in general following WWII and the early days of Formula 1. Phil Hill was one of the truly greats of the post war era and he will be missed.

Sad news. Phil Hill was one of the giants. For the success that he had during the most dangerous era of motorsports can not be over appreciated. And he came through completely unscathed.

I don't think that Phil Hill ever got his due in America because most of his major achievements were achieved outside the U.S. He is probably one of the rare American sport figures who is more well-known outside America than within.

Ferrari is planning some sort of tribute at Spa.
