One of the sure ways to figure this out is to watch stations that are within proximity of each other. If they're all priced roughly the same then you know that the price is what it is but if you notice wild swings between stations you know the owners are trying to fatten their wallets on your dollars.
There is no reason for gas prices to go up today; a week or 2 from now?, that's different.
