Well, let's see here:
The 'early' years are tough to remember.....
'63 Chevy Impala SS - 100 - & blew the fan belt right off!
'71 Merc. Cyclone - 120 - awesome from a flat start - not so good over 100.
'78 Plymouth Arrow - 70 - downright scary to travel any faster!
'86 Chev. Cavalier RS: 110 - 3 semi. pass.
'93 Ford Probe GT: 120 - stupid name, smooth as silk at 120.
'99 Merc. Cougar - 120 - same engine as the Probe.
'04 Xfire Coupe - 'maxed' at 155.
'05 Xfire SRT-6 - 'maxed' at 160. Evidently speedo. off by 3 mph.

79 Omni 024. Speedo only went up to 85, so I'll say 95.
91 Spirit R/T. 100.
05 SRT-6. 115. Yeah, fast cars are just wasted with me.
And, in a pathetic attempt to upstage oledoc2u and maxcichon:
74 Piper Warrior. 148, confirmed via GPS.

NO, really, in a little stock 4cyl ?????
High Altitude Low Opening.
You jump at 14K to 25K with O2 bottles (and cold weather gear) and altimeter deploy or manual deploy your chute at 3K to 5K.
With glide techniques, you can get 1:3 distance over ground lateral travel. For every 3 feet you fall, you can travel 1 foot in a given direction. I needed 1 HALO to get my Merit Badge.
There are acual people, perfectly sober, that pay money to exit perfectly functioning aircraft. I loved it when I was young, but only think of it fondly now.

Huah, Max! All the way!
150 in the SRT-6 (closed circuit track of course
)
143 in 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT
136 in 1994 Dodge Stealth
and easily over 120 in anything else I've driven. I make regular donations to the F.O.P. to insure good relations.
Actually kinda funny story, I had the salesman whiteknuckling the dash when I test drove my Eclipse. I was only going 120. I don't know why he was nervous.

I was a "ROMAD". USAF Radio Operation/Maintenance And Driver specialist. I worked with Forward Air ControllerS. In theory. One of the very few Air Farce units trusted with small arms.
Coyote (forum member) knows what both of these are.

The Pinto (2.0 L) I drag raced so it was pretty potent.
The Celica (stock DOHC 2.0 L)was ECU limited to 115. I would do that all day long when I was in Italy.
The Metro now has a 1.6 L motor. The car weighs nothing and the 25% increase in torque from the engine swap makes the difference.

I can’t remember all of then, but I can confirm 95mph in a 1 litre Skoda Estelle. That was noisy.
I’ve been trying to hold my Crossfire down, as I am very much aware that it attracts attention, and the Rozzers may well decide that it’s worth flagging down if they think I’m going too fast.
I’m hoping that there will be some track days next year - I may take her out on one of those.

86 Jeep Cherokee - 75mph (i think that was its max speed)
95 Subaru Impreza - 105mph (started shaking pretty badly)
98 Subaru Forester - 95mph (aerodynamics of a brick)
00 Pontiac Trans Am - 145mph (with room to spare)
04 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 110mph (my bro's 4.7L V8 - hit the limiter)
05 Crossfire SRT-6 - 156mph (hit the limiter)
The TA and SRT-6 runs were both closed roads. I'm not really crazy enough to try that out in the wild.

1970 GTO convertible - speedo 147 could have keep going - tires?
1971 Alfa Berlina - speedo 118 - broke timing chain; bent the cranks;
screwed the fuel injection system
rebuilt engine w/ webers - did 135 -
that was enough
1993 Seville - limited to 125
1997 Audi cabriolet limited to 125
2003 Jag X type "
2005 Crossfire 147 top down - having a blast! - it felt like it could keep on going!
of course all of this took place on closed roads - or race tracks!

some of you guys have either been keeping diaries or are estimating unless your memories are one hell of a lot sharper than mine are ...
For ALL of the older cars I've owned (from a 1924 Model T Ford thru a 1962 Impala, I have NO idea how fast I went in any of them, let alone each of them ...
First car I ever drove at a speed greater than 100mph was a 74 Mazda RX4 ... and it felt highly unsafe IMO ... one could FEEL the car lift as it got above 90 and even the most casual thinker realizes that the footprint of each of the none-too-wide tires is becoming increasingly small ... too little contact with the road = too little control over the vehicle if any variables are encountered ...
oh, sure ... wuss, you may say ... well, I'd had a number of friends die in single car crashes,, mostly due to speed and was perhaps a bit too keenly aware of the possibilties ... since then, 95 has been my personal best until the Crossfire ...
It sits down so well, even at a high rate of speed that I've broken past 100 so many times I can't count 'em ... even had my daughter-in-laws 85 yo grandmother out for a ride and when she said she hoped I'd be able to "really zip it", I did ... we got to nearly 120 before I shut it down .... poor old thing had no perspective because she is too small to see over the bottome of the window and could not see the ground ...
130 my personal best in my Crossfire, but it had SO much pedal left and there was simply NO feeling of being at risk since handling was so highly positive throughout ... the greater fear for me with this car is being tagged by the CHP or some other law enforcement agency ... at that high a rate of speed, even having a policeman son would be of no help to me if I were pulled over ...
