Default Digitized logo?

I have been checking into getting a few items embroided with the following artwork:

A local company will do it for $12 a piece but wants an extra $35 to digitize the jpg image. Is this cost normal? Does someone already have the file digitized since it a common logo on this forum?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

James

another approach would be to get others to join in the purchase of said items ... spreading the $35 cost around several ways would ease the blow ... and I, for one, would consider joining such a group buy ...

just a thought

Yes, the charge is normal. It is basically a setup charge. They have to put it in a digital format that their automated sewing machines understand. Once it is in that digital format, the sewing machine can stitch out as many logos as you want.

I could do it for you if you know what format they want. You already have a JPG format, the one you placed here. I can make the adjustment in Photoshop to TIFF, BMP, PXR, PNG and many others. But their machines may have a type specific format I can't duplicate. Check with them and let me know.

I am sure, as SteveS said, many others might be interested in sharing your purchase. Post the details of what is available.

You can check with shirt-a-day. We paid him for those fees, and he can make them for you as well. He's made shirts and hats for us.

Thanks FP, but it would probably cost me more to send him my jackets and sweatshirts. I have purchased shirts from him before and they are nice but I have a few things of my own I want embroided. Is it possible to get the digitized file from him?

Thanks, James

They probably want a .dst file. Most comercial machines use that format. If you have a .bmp or .jpg file. you can type a search in google to find a program to convert it. The trick is to find out what file format the company needs for their machines. If you need more help let me know. The first thing is to find out what format they need.

Fred, I asked and was suprised he told me. Yes you are correct, DST file would work for his machine.

I am not sure what I need to find on the Net to make the conversion.

Thanks, James

James, I'll look through my files and see if I can find some. But, you should contact shirt-a-day, and him for the files.

Thanks Steve and FP.

FP, I didn't pay Shirt-a-day for that service so I don't feel comfortable asking for something I personally didn't pay for. However I have bought two nice shirts from him 6 months ago.

This is a program that might work for you, at least you could give it a try.
There are several places online that will digitize a .jpg or .bmp file for about $15.oo for a thousand stitches....
