Default Not the greatest way to end the week...

Got word at around 5:30 CST that my grandmother passed away this afternoon. She was my last remaining grandparent.

Kinda blind-sided all of us, since she didn't have heart trouble or anything of that nature.

My uncle went to her house to drop something off, and found her laying out in the front yard. Apparently she had been doing yard work, so she was doing what she loved just before she made her trip to Heaven. No known cause-of-death at this point. She turned 80 last year...

I'm sorry for your loss, John. I can tell by your writing how much she meant to you. As you know, none of us gets out of this alive. She was doing what she loved-we should all be so lucky. She had you all these years. No regrets. Take care, and remember she loved you too.

Cathy and my sympathies as well John.

Grandparents are such a blessing not always appreciated until they are gone. They are the jewels of our childhood even when we are no longer children. Missed when absent.

Thank you very much for the support. Both of you make excellent points, and there were indeed many great memories.

John, please accept our condolences.
I lost my last remaining grandparent (my Grandfather) when I was just about your age. To this day I still remember the good times we shared. He went suddenly, and my biggest regret was not having the chance to say goodby, but I believe he knew how I felt about him and I'm sure Your Grandmother knew how much you cared for her.

John, sorry to hear of your loss. It losing the last grandparent when you are close is a sobering moment, but from the sounds of it, as you put it, she was where she liked being the most. Good luck to you and any family during this moment in time. To help you, consider planting her favorite plant where you can care for it.

John my condolescences to you and your family. It was a tough day when my grandfather passed away 5 years ago. It was alot tougher 3 months ago when my father passed away. As much as it hurts, take time to comfort your parent that lost their mother. Even though we get caught up in life, we can never love them too much. As you said, she went doing what she loved. God Bless.

Thank you all for the additional prayers and condolences. She was what one would consider a "Godly woman", always carrying a hymn in her heart and spreading the good word.

And cruzin, you're absolutely right: my father is struggling the most in this, and rightfully so. I am making it top-priority to be there for him in this time.

Erzer -- Good idea on the plant. At my condominium, they're pretty strict on what can be planted out front. But at the very least, I might buy the plant and send it to my parents. My mom has thumbs that are equally as green as my grandmother's, and she would no doubt enjoy the sentiment.

+fireamx -- I think that's what I'm struggling with the most, is the absence of closure in the traditional sense. I saw her at a family reunion at Christmas, and she still had a hug that would break you in half. But, the silver lining is that she didn't suffer in a hospital for months, like my grandfather (her husband). So... there's peace in that.

To everyone else, thank you immensely for the prayers. It means a great deal to me.

Knowing she was a woman of God has to be a real comfort. Know that He is with you. God bless and comfort your family.
