He was a corrupted @ss then and had a very low regard of women. Should never have been left on the force but most found him a likable guy. So he never got booted.
Happens a lot on the force.
Corrupt Cops make it hard for good cops and good minded citizens to get justice. It literaly puts everyone's safety in danger to allow the "Good Ole Boy" mentality be a part of the Blue Wall.
Being a cop is almost as old a profession as the "oldest profession" and similarly performs the same tricks as it ever did. Sad because it is also a very honorable one and deserves better than guys like Drew.
Send him to Gitmo. If found guilty, send him to hell.

Three dead wives?
Don't you think the people who allow dirty cops to get by with all their corruption are just as guilty? Maybe even more so.By allowing these things to continue they are only contributing to their egos, letting them know they have nobody to answer to.
Our police department is very corrupt. Southern corruption just like portrayed in the movie "Walking Tall."
What can citzens do?

Franc made some good points in his post.
Sadly, in every profession, there are those who take advantage of their particular position.
And give a bad name to those who act correctly.
The Legal system, has little to do with justice, far to frequently.
From what I have read about Drew, I have to ask;Why someone did not see the red flags
waving, a long time ago.

I think he has little regard for women. He has the same attitude as Scott Petterson did. He doesn't give the impression he is distressed over any of the implications. However, he has tried to be the center of attention it seems.
He just gives the impression he has little regard for women or life for that matter. I think his brother inlaw admitted to helping him dispose of the body.

All I know is he may be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but he is guilty as charged in the court of public opinion.
Although I did see him a couple times a month over the past six. He frequented a bar near me called Gallway's and he always had some girl who could have been his daughter on his arm...and it wasn't always that one girl he drags around as his girlfriend.
+1

I agree with voting for ethical people and can see how that would help improve things in the future. However, it seems that corruption is so deep into our entire legal system it can't be cleaned up.
Police officers are usually not very educated, under payed and it seems that for the most part tend to bully people. They get away with this because of the position they hold. It's a brotherhood and they stick together no matter what.
I'm sure Mr. Petterson is relying on that.
But what about the women who have lost their lives? What about their children and loved ones who have been hurt?

I'm not lumping them all together. When I say legal system I'm including lawyers, judges and the police. I also understand that some are honest.
I do believe the police or at least in Ga. are under paid and for the most part, alot of them are not very educated. That's not to say everyone. But you have to admit alot of police officers have that bully attitude and some think they can abuse the uniform and do. It's a power or control thing I guess.
However, most attorneys I think just sell their souls to the devil. I know there are good people in all walks of life. But lets tell the truth, some of these people just abuse our justice system.

YES, there are bad apples in every profession. And perhaps the police profession tends to attrach those with a more - shall we say - aggressive temperment. Actually, you cannot do a go job as a cop if you are passive or cannot stomach any kind of confrontation. Cops tend to see human nature at it's most pathetic and cruel worst, and some cops may temper their personalities in order to manage to get through the day, somewhat like soldiers in battle.
Where I live in TX, the local police departments are vastly underpaid, and many younger cops run as fast as they can to get either into Border Patrol or the State police, simply so they can earn a decent living since their salaries are tied to the taxes of the local, very poor towns. Many cops become cops not because they like to bully others, but simply because it is a necessary profession, and some hope they can help people in need. Are there bad cops here? Sure. This area by the border could be considered prime dirty cop/judge/politician habitat. But there are also good cops/judges/politicans.
To stereotype an entire profession based on some seriously disturbed individuals (IMHO, Peterson could be easily diagnosed as psychopathic, and YES I think he is guilty) and to say that you 'understand' that there are some good guys out there is very judgmental and condescending.
People don't become cops with the intention of being bad cops. They tend to be bad people to begin with. Peterson would still be slime even if he were in a different profession. He is not Peterson the Cop but Peterson (if found guilty in a court of law) the Murderer.
*Sorry* I don't know any cops but still feel the need to defend a profession I know I lack the ***** to enter....(now getting off my little dais and rushing back to my little underpaid government job....)
I think your misunderstanding me. I don't think judges or lawyers are underpaid. I do think at least in my area police are under paid. I certainly agree they deal with things daily I would not wish to. I think there are both good and bad in all professions. But, when I see some of these in the position to arrest people for the same things they're doing, or in Peterson's case worse than most, it is sickening.
Please don't be offended by the fact that I feel there is too much corruption in our Legal system or Government if you feel more comfortable with that term. It's in the news every day.
I'm just seeking an answer as to how we can make it better.

Barbie, you said in your own post, "It's in the news every day" Do you think they would put it in the news if an officer did something good? 99% of law enforcement officers are good people, it's the 1% that make us ALL look bad and the media is partly to blame. News is not factual anymore, it's entertainment.
I'm sure you would never find it acceptable to say, Most black people are thieves, But you do find it acceptable to say that most cops are under educated and they tend to bully people. Think about that for a minute.
One of the things I've learned being a cop is that half of what you see on the news is not true or has been embellished. For every 1 bad cop story you tell, I can tell you 100 good cop stories. Please remember who is going to come running to you when you CALL911
And some of us even drive Crossfires!

Certainly if I called 911 I would want who ever came to be helpful ... but that's what they get paid for. Isn't it? I also appreciate there are a lot of good cops and there are bad apples in all barrels.
Doesn't it **** you off when one of them shows up in the news for doing drugs on the job or say a number of jailers get caught having sex with female inmates? I would think you would be more out raged than the rest of us.
I agree not all are without education. But lets get real, in my location the majority don't have that much of an education. You know that's ok too. Just don't have the attitude that because you have a badge your above the law and everyone else. I know quite a few of them that drink and drive, have even gotten into fights and cut one another and it was all covered up. Just as you say, some of the good stories never make the news.
Your points are all good and valid. They deal with things I certainly wouldn't want to. That has to be hard at times, that's a given. Just don't do it with a bad attitude. Everybody makes mistakes. I just ask that they have a little more compassion.
