Default Preconceptions:

As a Canadian I have seen a number of preconceptions regarding Canada. Over the years I have met tourists that have come into Toronto with skis in the middle of July when the temperature is around 30 degree Celsius [about 90 degree Fahrenheit] and asking were the snow is.
I must admit that I am just as guilty of this.
I flew into Houston Texas last week and was totally taken back. I had the preconceptions that Texas was like the western movies I have seen with dry tumble weed rather than a city that had trees every where and was closer to the place that I live than my preconceptions.

I was wondering since we have members from all over the world if a number of us could dispense with some of the miss conceptions by giving a note listing what people think it is like were you live and a description of the reality.

Me I live just out side of Vancouver
Preconceptions;
Every one is very laid back – Well that is true compared to New York or Toronto but not true of Valdese Alaska or say Wilkes- Barre Pennsylvania.
It is cold – Well it tends to be say 5 Degrees Celsius in the Winter and 28 Degrees Celsius in the Summer -
The Scenery is spectacular- Yes some of the best scenery that I know of.
It rains all the time – No it does rain during the winter but much of that rain is a light mist rather than large heavy drops.

It helps that there are more than 9 million people in the greater Houston area from every country imaginable and every walk of life possible.

Culture FTW.

I'm biased though.

I live in Southern California.

The rest of the world thinks Cali is the land of fruits and nuts.

Well......um.........er....................

Yeah, I got nothin'.

Oh, oh, wait a sec. Even January 1 when the Rose Parade is shown on nationwide TV the weather is always sunny and beautiful, so everybody thinks the weather is always like that here. The other night we had pretty violent thunderstorms - lightning, thunder that shook the house, the whole bit. I grew up in Michigan so I know what a real thunderstorm is like, and this one was pretty darn close, though very short lived.

Of course, the remaining 364 days are pretty nice.
