Question Auto Transporters

Looks like that I am on my way to North Carolina.

I have sold my house (in contract) on Long Island and went to contract on a newly constructed home in North Carolina. The hypothetical closing date is August 15th.

I am going to tow my XFire on a tow dolly (all 4 wheels off the ground) with my 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 door Sahara Unlimited. After further research, this is not an option as the combined weight with the tow dolly will be around 5,000 lbs. and the two capacity of a 2008 Wrangler 4 door Sahara is 3500 lbs.

I need to ship my fiancee's 2009 Toyota Camry from L.I. to N. Carolina.

I have received quotes from $300 to $1,000!

Has anyone here used these auto transporter services? Go for door-to-door? Terminal drop off? Use a broker who just posts my job on a board (which the vast majority seem to be)? Go for a transporter that owns it own trucks?

HELP!!!!

I had a very good experience with Domestic Auto Transport. After searching the Internet for several days I decided on them. Tonight I sent a note to Jocelyn to see if this was something she wanted to take on but the note was returned-unknown user so she must no longer be with them. Her phone number was (360)-834-6013 x15. You might try it just in the event something strange went on with my email message--it wouldn't be the first. It cost me $728 to ship my Crossfire from Grapevine, TX to Nampa, ID. That was among the lowest bids I received.

There are a lot of good companies out there that have a network of Independent truckers that take on the loads they are scheduled for.

Make multiple inquiries and finally decide on the one you feel most comfortable with.

Jim

Thanks Jim. Domestic was one of the vendors I have been thinking about.

It is great to hear from someone with a good experience with an Auto Transporter,

have you considered having a friend or family member drive the car to NC for you? A one-way nonstop airplane ride back to LI might be as little as $70.

Hey Stan,

Thanks!

We are moving to a small town called Youngsville, northeast of Durham and midway between Raleigh and Rocky Mount.

I had my car transported from Houston to Chicago. I was weary about it, because I babied the crap and still do out of my crossfire.

In my opinion, finding a company that specializes in auto transport is your best option and frankly, finding a company that will "post it to a job board" should be your absolute last resort.

The company you choose doesn't nevessarily have to own their own trucks as most don't, but finding a company that is fluent is key.

Good luck with everything, and I would suggest driving the crossfire if possible.

I have been transferred to NJ for work and will be driving mine there. Although I don't have a second car that needs to be moved as well.

My brother owns a cigar store called Nash Cigars. My brother's shop in is Knightsdale. NASH CIGAR, Serving Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Raleigh NC His name is Kevin and his wife's is Sissy. Should you get the urge when you are down there. Not sure where that is in comparison to Youngsville. But it seems to be about the same general area. Any how, I may be tripping down that way soon, on my way to Mississippi. I will look you up if I get down there.

I have researched transprting a motorcycle to NC. You best bet is to have a trusted friend drive it there. It is less expensive, for the most part to pay a return trip for an individual. No matter how good a company is rated, you never know how the car will be treated and how trustworthy the truck driver is. This is the reason why I haven't shipped my motorcycle to NC yet. Waiting for a convenient time for my brother to come up with his pickup to get it.
