Nikon D5000 SLR
I was referred to this website/store in New York City by Dave Allison - Owner of US129photos.com
They are the guys who take all our professional photos at the Dragon and nearly 3,000,000 pics a year overall.
He buys all his equipment exclusively from B&H Photo and Video and said the customer service is excellent.
After hours of internet searches (before calling Dave) this site has the lowest overall prices I found anywhere.
Free shipping and no sales tax

I got a D80 package at Costco a couple of years ago.... great camera... smarter than me....
The D5000 would be great but I cant justify it with the D80
..... Happy photographing..

I've been using B&H since 1999, back when Henry Posner still emailed out personal thank-yous to customers who gave their store positive feedback.
Great store, not necessarily price leaders anymore, but their service is the best. BTW - if you are ever in NYC and have a chance to stop by there - do so - the way the store is set up is pretty amazing.

I've been in the consumer electronics business for almost 20 years. B&H is a very reputable retailer/e-tailer and Nikon SLRs are great cameras. You will be very happy with the D5000. You might also want to pick up a "remote" & "tripod" for when taking those Crossfire night shots.

I have been thinking about another camera and having about forty or so film cameras and five digitals already I thought of a getting a Sony SLR so that I could use my Minolta AF lenses.
But the more I thought about my uses for it and the bother of changing and carting around the lenses, my thoughts have changed to the point and shoot super zooms as being good enough.
Sure the quality is not as good as the better SLR's with the bigger sensors and good lenses but so what, they are compact, have reasonable picture quality and can be had for less than half the price of the basic SLR.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 can be had for $310 at the store as mentioned above. You can buy two and still have money left over for some accessories.
Anyone got any experience with these cameras?

It came today....I loaded the software to my PC and watched a lengthy DVD that explains many of the features of this camera.
Looks like a lot of good photos and HD Videos will be possible now.
Tomorrow I will begin looking through the 200+ pages in the manual to better understand all the functionality of this bad boy.
For now it's point and shoot in AUTO mode with AUTO FOCUS...lol

Anyone that thinks that their point and shoot camera can take as good pictures as Valk's camera had best look at the size of the sensors on Valks camera compared to the one on their camera.
This is the major drawback with this type of camera, we will not even mention their cheap lenses made from recycled Coke bottles - joke.
Valks camera has the DX size sensor, point and shoots have at best the 1/2.5 - the smallest on the chart. The size determines the quantity of information gathered in the photo.
He has absolutely no excuse for poor photos now.

Great choice! This is a fantastic camera. I have a D100 which is obsolete now but still great shots. I think its body size is larger than the 5000. I also have all Nikon D lenses so I would just need the 5000 body. The choice of all the pros.
How did you beat Costco?
As long as were on digital cameras, when do we = the ability of film cameras. Are the digital cameras better now than film? Is it just convenience?

Made my decision, Nikon D5000 for me. I went to pull the trigger on it last night and found B&H will not ship it to Canada - Nikon will not let them.
That's just so Nikon Canada can soak us up here in the boonies - the barstewards. Well they are not getting my money, there's more than one way to skin a cat.
I ordered the accessories for it, extra battery, memory card etc. These were less than half we have to pay here.
Of course, if the prices give you a heart attack the medical bills are covered - as are the coroners services if your are really unlucky.
