Default Trading Alienware Laptop for a G4 Mac Laptop

Hey ! Just wanted to see if anyone is looking to trade their G4 mac laptop for my Alienware laptop (2.66 pentium) ... If anyone is interested just get ahold of me through my email or this thread! We can look at the stats on both and see if it is a fair trade... the warranty is still on mine...

Reason for trade: I hate windows... I'm a huge unix / open source fan... and I would like to use the Mac processor in the laptop to have OpenBSD or some form of UNIX installed (sorry I'm not a OSX fan either)

so why don't you just install linux on your intel based laptop?

My business software all runs on SCO unix on intel P3 & P4 systems. Works great.

I am not aware of too many op/sys that will run on a G4 CPU.

Good ol' SCO... bought out by microsoft... anyways

Its pentium and I know I could.. i personally like unix running on the G4 ... it runs VERY smooth and stable... since Mac OSX is unix BSD ... I'm a huge BSD fan... bobafettm.com is run on OpenBSD security system at my home... Plus I have about 6 computers as of right now.. a couple laptops... but I own 0 macs!! So i would like one to goof with

I think if you tried Linux Mandrake on it, you would be quite happy with the result.

Please - Please - Please

Lets not start the Linux - SCO - Microsoft debate here. It is being carried out enough on the CRN boards.....

Wanting to have another hardware platform on site to work with is a good idea!

You probably won't find anyone willing to trade straight-up unless they just switched employers or their employer just switched platforms -- most G4 laptop owners you'd have to pry theirmachine from their cold dead fingers -- but if your Pentium still has value try selling it on ebay, then use proceeds to get the unit you want. Great deals on used hardware out there.

I don't get why this many people still like Mac's. I mean besides graphical properties, they are inferior in my opinion. Alienware for a Mac. I wouldn't do it.

Hehe...here we go...you could NOT pry my PowerBook AL or my Crossfire from my cold dead hands

I have had probably 20 to 30 Macs in the last 20 years. The only one that ever went to the shop was one that I had just received and the HD went out. Hmmm...can you say that for your PeeCees? I have never been able to understand why people want to use PeeCees?? Everyone I know has nothing but problems, failures, and virii. In 20 years I've had one virus and that was about 17 years ago.

I have 4 Macs in my house that my wife and kids use and with Mac OSX they never crash. And believe me...my wife and kids can do some pretty stupid stuff on a computer

I use PeeCees at work as I'm in advertising, and things must be tested on all platforms...

BobbaFettm, no you can't have any of mine. BTW, I've got a web server that has been running for 1-1/2 years straight with two restarts for software upgrades.

Let the flames begin...at least we can agree on the Xfire

They're nice machines -- good luck finding a trade. Considering how much those Alienwares go for, you should be able to find someone somewhere to take you up on it (though those Mac owners can be a bit possessive of their machines, I've noticed).

'fraid I can't help you, though... I've got me a big ol' loud, heavy monster of a Sager here myself. It's a Powerbook-lover's worst nightmare, but I love it.

I've had my 500mhz G4 Titanium Powerbook for about 3-4 years. I will not trade it for anything in the world. It goes EVERYWHERE with me, it's taken a beating, and it keeps going, and is honestly faster than my 1.8 ghz P4 running XP Pro. I will upgrade to a G5 Powerbook when they come out, but even then, I doubt there is anything out there that my G4 can't handle. I love it. If you want to get a BIG discount on anything Apple, let me know, and I can hook you up, but only if you're a student.
