Default Amazing out of the box idea...and its green!

Finally, a green idea that makes some sense.
Solar Roadways : View Idea

It'll probably cost $200.00 a square foot but under Obama, we could just print the money.

I believe there will be serious maintanence issues so it may not be so good an idea on the Dragon.

My question, it may not work well for roadways but, why not use the concept on parking lots? A constant repair crew there would not be so inconvienent.

Brilliant idea... but how do they plan on rubber tires sticking to wet glass at 80mph?

(Rain occurs every now and then, ya know... )

I think it would be quite interesting to see what kinds of messages and pictures that hackers would get to display on the roadways...

If the idea is "green" it isn't "brilliant".

John, you are aware they now add glass to blacktop mix. To improve traction.

But again, I would suggest that a practical application of the technology would be in parking lots. Go to any Mall and tell me there aren't at least 30% of the spaces not occupied by anything but an occasional Crossfire.

Political commentary in the general section?
Just get your foot in the door, Soon your evil plan must be to drag the entire site down to your level.
I had given you more credit than this.

Well that's just great. That would mean that when there's a pothole in front of my driveway, I'm without electricity and internet connection for 10 years until the Dallas City Council votes for funding to make road repairs.

they aren't adding glass in Indiana...just stone...if there is glass in there, the workers threw in a coke bottle....I'd like to keep my tires....not rip they to shreads...can you imagine the hot days like you had, tar starts to get soft, glass doesn't....no, not for me...drainage, freezing and thawing kills roads...and if no base, weight will take it's toll...better we invent hovercraft, than this idea....but I could see portions of the road with inserts like these...giving warnings and such...

Doc, I suspect that if you have any city with a recycling system, they are producing tumbled glass aggragate for roads. Both asphalt and concrete. Stuff seems to make Blacktop less slippery when wet and actually last longer.
Glass is incredibly strong and durable,. Much more than the soft limestone aggregates usually used to make asphalt and concrete for roads. It does not absorb moisture like the limestone does either.

It doesn't cut your tires because it is tumbled and smoothed.

And, there seems to be an endless supply of throw away beer bottles from which to make it. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,do your part and help out.

They do still let you drink beer in Indiana, don't they?
