Default Hey everyone... just an introduction

The name's Chris..

I've been a die-hard mustang fan for the past few years.. I stopped to help some stalled vehicles in Little Rock a few weeks ago when a drunk driver decided that he wanted to total my '03 Mustang..

anyway.. I got screwed over on aftermarket parts and modifications.. so I decided that I needed a car that would stand out without excessive modification.. and I saw a Crossfire listed locally.. and thus my search began.

I'm waiting on the insurance payout to take effect, then I'm going to be headed about 7 hours away to pick up an '05 base model, black, standard, 22,500 miles, no body damage whatsoever, 1 owner..

I do I.T. work for a living, and I make my cars a major part of my life because driving is one of the things that I find the most enjoyable in life.. that being said, I'm able to turn a wrench just as fluently as I can fix computer issues --

The choice came down to a gunmetal/silver '04 with 88k on it for $10k out the door (from a dealership so that has TTL and whatnot included), or an '05 with 22k on it for $11k from a private party.. it's not a very hard decision. I don't like new cars, but when I buy used, I want very little mileage. My '03 mustang, bought in 2010, had 43k when I bought it.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is Chrysler and their notorious lack of consideration as far as providing Xfire owners body parts... but I guess that will be more of an issue for the insurance company to worry about the next time a drunk driver tries to take me out.

Hi chris I'm will

Welcome to the forum

If you dont mind tell me a little more about how you got screwed on your mods. My srt4 is heavily modded and I've often wondered what'd happen if someone hit it.

Well, I wasn't even in the vehicle when it was hit.. the guy got arrested on scene. He was insured through AAA. AAA will only pay the fair market value of the stock car, and then the "street value" of additional modifications. So, let's say I had invested six thousand dollars in aftermarket parts, but it only really increased the car's value by... one thousand dollars. They would give me the one thousand dollars.

Additionally, I had spent $1000 on replacing my A/C system just 6 days earlier. They aren't reimbursing me the $1000, they're giving me the amount that having a working A/C increased my car's value.

Once the insurance stuff is settled, I'm taking the guy to small claims court for the difference between replacement retail value and the "street value" his insurance will pay. It's not my fault that he totaled my car. I can't buy an identical car and all of the parts I had on it for "street value".

Be VERY smart and keep all of your receipts if you can.. additionally.. take out additional coverage with YOUR insurer on the value of the parts.. I didn't do that.. or I could go through my insurance to recoup the lost $$ on the modifications.

Just an update on the insurance situation --

I submitted about $1000 in receipts for parts I'd added on the Mustang in the last year. Some as early as a month before their insured guy got drunk and totaled my car.

I also submitted about $1000 in receipts for A/C repair a week before this happened.

They are reimbursing me $0 for the aftermarket parts and under $400 on the repairs.

I have to take the driver to small claims court now, this is unacceptable.

Word of advice.. ADD COVERAGE for your mods through your insurer...

Well, it was an 800 mile round trip.. but I have my '05 XF now! 22,501 miles (well, 22,901 now).. 1 owner... garage kept.. there's a 1 inch scratch and a door ding but other than than... looks brand new.

Hooray! PS: This was hour 8 of the drive.. I stopped to get gas and saw a guy run into a lady's car.. he started to take off and I ran after him and got him out of his car until the cops came. Young guy, he seemed scared to death.. I kept asking "are broken bumper covers worth jail time?"

Hi Chris and welcome.

I do feel your pain having helped one of my employees buy an 03 Stang which after significant mods was totaled by a shiftles uninsured drunk driver. Insurance covered his loan, but not my investment.

That didn't bother me as much as my friend's loss. The car was stunning.

The pics show a good looking coupe. You should have fun with it.

Good luck collecting from the errant driver, even if you win in court.
I do like your story about chasing a perp down. I don't want to run afoul in your neighborhood.

From where do you hail?

This is one thing I really love about the XF community -- people are friendly.. we can respect each other on the basis of common ground. The Mustang board I posted at.. people would just say "Oh your headlights are ugly" or something like that.. haha.

Not planning on any modifications, not for a while at least.. aside from audio.. and maybe tint.. and maybe exhaust.. haha!

It's really nice. I was surprised at the complete lack of a cupholder..

@amx: If by race, you mean me watch you speed away.. of course.

@franc: I live in Little Rock, AR.. I got the car in Saginaw/Fort Worth, Texas.. I was really impressed with the ride quality.. and of course it turns heads. I got roughly 27 mpg on the trip here with the cruise control pegged at 70 for the most part.

Now if I can just keep people from smashing into it......

Chris, welcome to the forum. Your car looks real nice, and being black should make it very easy to touch up the few imperfections.
Don't lament over the lack of a cupholder. Many here who have one, would trade you for your cars pocket.
I too drove a long ways to pick up my car (9 hours each way) and I loved every minute of the trip home. It was a great bonding experience with my new car.
I totally agree with Ya about how "civilized this forum is compared to others I frequent ". (As long as you stay out of the "political forum" that is).
