Carroll Shelby died today
One of the real greats of the auto industry passed away today. Always wanted to meet him. He did great work at Ford and Chrysler. His work made all cars better! He will be greatly missed.
Right on point!
I remember the first time I became aware of Shelby. I was in high school (didn't even have a drivers permit yet) and a rich friend of my brother's came over to show us the car his dad leased for him to use during the summer; a Ford Mustang GT 350 H !!! I couldn't believe the speed of this car as I sat in the back underneath the roll bar!! I was in love!!! It was hard to believe that you could actually rent a car like that. If I had had a car like that when I was that young 15-16, I would not be here today. It was too much car for me and my youthful crazyness. Anyway, I have followed Shelby and his cars ever since. He was also a American patriot flying airplanes in WWII. An example of what hard work and a dream can accomplish. Going from chicken farmer to winner of Le Mans 24 Hours both as a driver, car owner, and designer. He beat Ferrari at his own game. Love it! R.I.P.
