Default Colorado Fires - My hometown on fire...

It's been an awful month here in Colorado with the recent fires. The northwest side of Colorado Springs is currently on fire. The Flying W Ranch where we had an event last summer for the CAA-RME has been totally burnt down. My prayers for all those who are affected.

Flying W Ranch earlier today before fire totally took it over:

Evan this is really sad and close to our hearts as we lived in the Springs for 10 years. To think where our home for a good part of that time was situated on the AF Academy is evacuated and one of our favorites, Garden Of The Gods is/will be consumed...I'm speechless.

I hope all of our friends both owners from here and those we left behind when we moved are safe as well as all. Keep us posted here and on Facebook as the local new is poorly covering this...right now weather channel gives us the best news.

Those pictures are surreal ... be safe and God Bless those affected.

This is awful, Evan.

I will definitely be praying for the families in that area. Colorado Springs is a very big base for Christian ministry...

What kind of firefighting force is engaging this blaze?

John,
I'm not sure to be honest. We have about 8-10 active fires in the state right now. Forces are definitely spread thin. We haven't had any real precipitation in the state for the most part since May. Temps have been 100+ for the past few days with dew points below 20 degrees.

I'm never one to champion Federal involvement... but isn't there some kind of "mass assembly of force" we as a nation can muster to prevent whole cities from being wiped out? I mean, Obama has time to call Egypt to congratulate the Muslim Brotherhood on their victory, but not enough time/resources to save cities within our borders? I'd have every plane west of the Mississippi in action on this...

Who knows. Seems the media is more worried about the storm in Florida than the fires out west. Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico also are suffering from fires.

Seems New Orleans never got much help at the time they had too much water, that's just an outsiders view though.

This would be a good time to see if prayer from the Christian Ministries helps though.

It sure is a sad sight to see and rumors of arsonists at work as well, let's hope they get caught in their own fires.

Let's hope for the best and a change of the wind in the right direction.

We are all in my family praying for all those connected to Colorado. I have a neice that lives there. Very worried for her!

How easily you forget the recent devastating midwestern floods that received little/no attention under Obama's watch... but those affected were predominately white farmers. No looting occurred. No stadiums ravished. Just some oversight and apathy... that's all.

In regards to defenses... You can put on a coat to guard from the cold, but you can only strip down so far to evade the heat. You can put a fire out, but you can't calm a hurricane. Clearly the storm surge was racist... the media said so.

Please be reminded that God won't protect you FROM something He can perfect you through. Atheists struggle to grasp that concept, given their complete control of their lives.

Still, prayer for the families to cope is a must. One can't unring the bell, and a house already consumed by fire clearly can't be saved by prayer. On that note, Jesus came to save US from the fire, not our belongings. But many people don't have that connection with the Lord yet, and my heart weeps for them as they search for the next step to take.

None of us, regardless of our arrogance and geographical insulation, would want to trade places. None of us.

Evan, my apologies for the political injections. A quick comment turned to a discussion after someone took the bait. I knew better.

32,000 people currently evacuated from the Springs.
The Air Force Academy has been evacuated to Ft. Carson.....
This is surreal.

Evan,

I'm thinking of you and everyone else I've known from that area. My heart and thoughts are with you.

The picture with the Academy Chapel with the fire/smoke as a backdrop really zinged me! Been in there a few times. I guess this means the high desert/Peterson Field are long gone?

Be safe and I hope this is over soon for all.

As for the MSM not giving this event any air time, didn't Colorado recently turn from Blue to Red?

There you have it...

Max,
The fires are concentrated on the west side of town. Peterson Field is about 10-15 miles away from the fires and are out of danger (and should remain out of danger) from the fire.

And with me being an "Expert" map reader, all I had to do was look!

All our best, buddy.

Another fire started west of Boulder, but has not yet grown in size. It is about a 1 1/2 away from city limits so far this morning. Here is a photo from last night:

I told her the initial one may have started from lightning, but I pulled that answer from my @ss.

How do all of these smaller fires simply pop up? I struggle to think they're all arson.
