Default Euro road-trip

Well I finally did it I went on a (semi)planned road trip through Europe... the initial idea was to take a 4 day trip and take in the Millau Bridge and region. After looking at bits and bobs we decided to forgo Millau this year and ended up plumping for Southern Germany, a proposed trip of some 1,700 miles in a week.

Well the idea was good if a little optimistic on the mileage front - we actually ended up doing 2,500 miles in a week and had a real blast doing so.

Took a few pictures en-route so hopefully you peeps on here will find them interesting/fun.

07.30 ferry time - horrible time in the morning and the mood isn't helped by the equal worst meal of the trip

this is better Riems is a lovely looking town

and just outside is (for a petrol-head) even better

After that it's off to the Swiss Alps for a little drive through the Furka Pass and an encounter with a glacier (or as I seemed to think - the world's largest popsicle!).

Navigation and forward planning not being one of my strong suits I found out that the pass is (for us to all intents and purposes) one way but that did mean that I got to ride on a car-train back through the mountain and from then on through the Alpen Pass on to a lovely overnight stay at the hotel and it actually snowed overnight YAY!!!

From there on in it was off to Fusen and 'Mad' king Ludwig's Castle (guess where Disney got his inspiration from!!)

A brief stop-off at my home town (and a surprise hi to a local XF) was followed up with a visit to the scene of one of the most shameful parts of modern history - Dachau

Back on the brighter side a nice steady 120mph cruise to the MohneSee Dam (of the Dambusters fame) and then back down to the Nurburgring (thought a better car than the XF was to be found here lol)

Finally on to Aachen a 1,200 year old cathedral and the largest piece of cake I've been offered in many years!

As an aside the worst driving I saw on holiday was by the Belgians - appalling!!
