Paradise in darkness
Paradise in darkness
In the latest episode of the Puerto Rican Chronicles, in the dark .... again. First, we're alive and kicking down here in good ole Puerto Rico. But what a ride. And the shaking just keeps going on and on. The power is out island wide with the exception of a few thousand in Mayaguez and Levittown. The airport, metropolitan area, south, east, west except Mayaguez, all without electricity. On the positive side of things, I have a small generator and no tsunami. I'm posting here, charging phones, computers, etc. and cooling some beer in the freezer as we speak. While rounding up extension cords I took a break to drive my car. Ah, it's nice to be able to smile for a while in the midst of this mess. Any how, I just thought some would like to know if we've survived. We have. Sleep tonight might, or might not come.

My wife and I enjoyed being there over a long weekend

Nice photos! We got power back in my area at 3:30 AM. So off I went this morning to fulfill obligations. Everywhere I went was without electricity. Perhaps I'll walk the dog on the beach, where else, and uncork a bottle to watch the sun set tonight. I'll leave you with the halfway point of my walk and one reason I live here.

Ritz Carlton, closed since Maria.
Looking towards Piņones.
Jet ski rentals, Isla Verde.
It's always sunny in Puerto Rico! Power went out at 4:45 AM. I believe they're resorting to rolling blackouts until more generation comes back on line. The largest power plant (Costa Sur) is going to be down for at least a year. Ecoelectrica and AES generation plants have damage that reportedly should be resolved in 3 or 4 days. What to do ..... go for another walk of course, enjoying the beauty that can't be impacted by lack of electricity.

Re: Paradise in darkness
I'm back for more therapy. Power is back on for 80% of the island and the rest should be powered up, except the destroyed areas, today or tomorrow. My walk this morning was to Punta Las Marias on an empty beach. The weather isn't the best today.
I keep hearing how the prior generation was more family oriented, tolerant, considerate, etc. Well after doing some checking and fact finding I can tell you without a doubt that it's true. (Beachside cemetery on my walk)
