Default driving safer

the safer we drive, the less chances to be involved in an accident.
this is to bring ideas that help to improve our driving.
anybody who knows of anything to do so is welcome to post it. this is our thread.
what to learn, links, suggestions, other forums related, everything.
previous experiences, accidents we witnessed, or heard of, that could be prevented if something was done a better way...

lets start with what i think is the most important:
1-concentrate.
stay awake. if you put all your senses into driving, you are more aware of all that is around you.
notice all the vehicles around you.
2-dont get distracted with music/radio; talking; drinking, eating (not easy, eh?)..
3-plan your way. if you are going to exit, when are you going to start signaling to change lane.
4-drive defensibly. think what the others MAY do. what unexpected thing any driver around may do.
5-avoid getting hypnotized. more about this soon.
6-you are a transformer. the moment you get into a car, you become a steel machine with wheels, that runs at whatever speed you want or can, and may be lethal to many-including yourself.
will keep adding, so stay put.

Reaction time slows with age...... I have increased my safe distance behind cars - both city and expressway. Arrive more relaxed.

Field of vision encompasses the next 8 seconds of what I will encounter. No surprises.

Old motorcyclist saying I heard.....”see a car ahead waiting to enter your highway? Watch the hubcaps”. No surprises.

pee before you leave, drink after.

Fun to try that. 446, 314, 244 milliseconds. The first number is probably the correct one for me because after that, I knew what to expect....

Pretty neat little game. Initial reaction time result was for a 72 year old. Pretty accurate! Had one result of 137 ms. Game said I probably wasn't a human being! Got to where I was consistently reacting as a mid-50's person once I was on alert..

i think that the most important thing of the game is that trains your subconscious mind to improve your alertness. once you do it regularly, you note that your reflexes definitely improve. for everything!
and that translates to your driving getting better. you live now into another dimension of alertness.
