Default Potential owner. Few questions.

Hey, I am a new potential owner of a XFire. One thing I am curious about is how much is everyone under 25 paying for insurance? I am 19, clean record, and seriously considering picking one up as soon as I sell my current car (2003 Dodge Stratus R/T). It's either a XFire or a Cobalt SS S/C. Also, how much room is in there? I'm a bigger guy (6'2" 280 lbs) and I am concerned about leg room and gut room. I look forward to hearing back from you and thank all of you in advance for your responses.

Call a Ins. agent, I've heard $300+ a month. As for size good luck!

Oh boy. That's not too bad. I'm paying about $200 a month right now.

Think it will be a tight fit for me? I guess I'll just have to go drive one this week, get a feel for it.

Edit: How tall is everyone?

Yeah, seriously...why ask about fitting, just go sit in one. From my experiences, I'd say 6'2" is pretty much approaching the upper limit.

some like to sit perfectly vertical.

if you like any type of comfortable partial recline in the seat back...5' 8" is the perfect size for this car.

Screamin, I'm 6'2" and I've been able to find a comfortable spot in my limited, but you've got about 65 lbs. on me, so that might be a factor. Like you said, go try one on for size and see how it fits.

Ya. That is about the only way for me to do it. I need to sell my current car first, it goes on the corner Monday, so well see how fast it sells. I've talked to a few guys, I've heard a horror story of over $500 a month for a 21 yr old, and then I heard $310 for a 19 yr old. So, I will post up on Monday to see what I get quoted for.

Screamin, I just had to tell this. When I bought my first brand new car, just one month after I turned 19, back in Jan. of 1970. I had to pay $1,160 a year just for the privilege to drive my new AMX, that stickered out at around $4,200 That made it a little over 1/4 of the price of the car.
If you find a new Crossfire for around 24k, (and I'm sure you can) $6,000 a year for insurance would be just about equal to what I paid, wouldn't it?

Ya, it would. I did a Progressive.com free quote deal on the XFire and it came out to $2,039 a year. Now, I did my car I have now and it came out almost dead on to what I am paying. So, if that is close then that works out to right around $170 a month. For ***** and giggles I did some other cars. The Cobalt came out to $2,134 a year, now, I'm not positive that's accurate, but it was for my current car, so. Well see tomorrow!

I found a nice 350z with the APS TT kit on it for 25k. Beautiful car, tons of work done to it, insurance quoted out on that for $2,591 a year.

A big guy like you may just have a little more room in the Z car. Have you ever sat in one of those?

Nope. I'm waiting to talk to my insurance lady before I go out and test drive cars. The Cobalt was just there, so I drove it to pass time. My uncle sells Chevy's, so he let's me drive what ever. My dad has a Silverado SS and is trading that up on a Trailblazer SS, so I was passing time while he was talking to my uncle about it.

Tell me how the 350z drives when you test drive one. I have an auto, just curious, because i'll be looking at a manual car in the future. Maybe too far in the future lol.

No Z in my future! No Cobalt either! GTO or XFire it is. Time to test drive!!! I'll post more later tonight, just got back from surgery, so I'm tired.

I just got home from the Chrysler Dealer. No Crossfire! I don't fit in it, I could BARELY and I mean BARELY get in it. So, I'm going with the GTO instead.

I was wondering tho, is there more room in the coupe than the roadster? Because I was in a roadster and it was tight as heck. The car is so beautiful and I couldn't even move around enough to drive it.

Sorry to hear you don't fit in a Crossfire. No comments on the GTO.

The roadster is actually supposed to have a little more head room than the coupe. (and yes I'm talking about when the top is up) You should be real happy with your new Goat. Is it a stick or an auto? What color?

Let me rephrase that. I am going with the GTO instead. I am looking for a 2005 black with red leather interior and of course the manual.

I am about 6' and similar weight to yourself.

It's a bit tight getting in but that's it. Once in everything is OK. Getting out is no problem as long as you don't park so you can't open the door.

I preferred the Crossfire over the 350Z or RX8. Personal choice I guess.

Can't help with insurance. Different country, different requirements. Over here, under 25 means big insurance premiums on anything but mainstream sedans.

Good Luck,
Regards
Ausfire.
