Smile How to install the Factory Cupholder?

I bought a used 2004 Crossfire Limited about a week ago. Everything was fine except it was missing the cupholder, which I've heard doesn't work anyways... Also, much to my surprise, it's a lot harder to install than it looks.

Anyways... I have the part (cupholder) just no way to install it. I went to the dealer and he said it would cost about $400 to install as they would have to take apart the entire center console. He also warned me that the wiring harness for the power mirrors could be damaged and pretty much ruin the entire system if done incorrectly.

Any suggestions? I may just suck it up and pay, but thought I should check on here first.

Well i gotta tell you i was messing around with mine a few weeks ago when that spring flew of my window i did manage to find it but you know i spent about 4 hours trying to put it back in and you know what? i said screw it i put it in without the spring and i am sooo happy i did cuz that damn thing popping open was driving me nuts.

So anyway just put it on without the spring... if that's the problem... hehe.

Unfortunately that wasn't the problem. Haha.. The entire cupholder unit needs to be installed, but the dealer said I would have to take apart the entire console. Has anyone done this? (Without causing more damage?)

what no you don't have to take the entire thing out... if i lived close to you i go there and put it my self too bad you dont live by ft campbell ky... the cup holder its self right? its kinda L shaped. if thats it then you just have to ease it in, left side first make sure the front one in then the right one... unless im not on the right track again... hehe.

HAHA...believe me, a GIANT hole in your console is ten times more useful than the cupholder!

Thanks to Danimal I was able to install the cupholder... shortly after installing it... i realized that it truly is the worst cupholder in automotive history.

I was (no joke) sitting in the car for about 30 minutes trying to figure out the pattern of opening and closing the cupholder. My friend (who installed it for me haha) thought he broke the code... but then we came to the conclusion that it has a mind of its own.

I don't think i will be using it much (ever) it just looks better that a big whole in my center console.

Many of us decided to install the storage cup in place of the holder...and it is much more useful.

I TOLD you the big empty hole was more useful...

BTW...Just for fun, try to put a 24 oz. styrofoam cup of steaming hot coffee in that new cupholder!

I find that funny you bought yours like that. When I bought mine I was in the SAME situation. I get in and could not figure out for the life of me how to get it in there. Took it to the deal and had put it in thinking I wouldn't have to pay anything because I bought it that way and the dealership would have taken care of it... well $85 in labor later it was in. I was pissed to say the least... what a rip off. And $400?! Who were they trying to kid? That's obscene!

Darn cup-holder thingy just won't stay closed. How do I get it out to remove the spring or fix it? better yet, where do you get a storage bin?

You would think these Mercedes Benz engineers could have figured out how to build a functional cup holder.
