Default Hello, and a question about seats

Hi:

I just became a member a few days ago after I purchased my first Crossfire. It's a 2005 Roadster with a 6spd man. Black. It has manual cloth seats, but I was thinking about upgrading them to power leather seats.

My question is this...

I am 6'4, and I have headroom with the top up with the manual seats. I saw some posts indicating that the power seats may sit higher, and therefore there would not be as much headroom. Can anyone give some more info on this? I don't want to spend the money and then find out they won't work for me. One reason I am considering the power seats is because my wife is only around 5'5, and would like to be able to raise the seat when she is either driving or riding. Plus I would think that the power seats would be more adjustable for me.

Thanks!

GregS

WELCOME! I'am 6'3",about 255lbs, and I fit Ok in my Limited. Once you find the "sweet spot" for the seating position, don't move it! I can fit inside with the top up and a baseball cap on and have about 2 inches from the top of my cap to the underside of the convertibe top. See if there is a dealer in your area with a Limited 'vert and maybe go take a test 'sit" and see how you like it first.

Thanks, GB. That helps. I like the look of the leather seats and would like to upgrade my car.

gregs its good to see you did a search. i do know there was someone here that lowered the seats about an inch. and it was the power seats. thats about all they can go without them hitting the ground(as far as the mechanism goes). so if you do get than and find that they sit too high. you can lower them. im trying to find the post where he did it, and cant find it right now but ill try to get back to you

Thumbs up Re: Hello, and a question about seats

Thanks, Voyager. That's good to know in case I start getting bugs plastered against my forehead!!!!

By the way, I have been a member of other forums in the past, but I am very impressed with this one. You guys have already been helpful and responsive. I look forward to being an active member of this great forum!! And I look forward to driving top-down in my Xfire Roadster on the 300 days/year of sunshine we enjoy here in Denver!

I'm 6'4" 195# and fit in a little snug.

It really is all about finding that "sweet spot". For me, I have plenty of headroom with the top up, but I'd definitely like more legroom!

Hi Greg. I retrofitted power seats to my XF also. The base cloth seats are much lower than the power leather seats.

Let me tell you why the XF seats are so high. Basically, the Crossfire has a 2.5" high box structure underneath the seats. This creates its incredible rigidity. Other cars, like the S2000, route the box structures around the seats. The seats on the XF mount on top of the box structure. This is why everyone starts up sitting high up.

I don't know what Jonnyangel did, but there is little to no hope in modifying the power seats to sit "lower" at all. All recaro seats are designed the same way underneath and all of them are made as low as the electronics allow. I would say that for the average person it is impossible to do any sort of modification. However, the power seats are great for shorter people, as they can be raised up to 4-5". (My power seats can go so high that the headrests hit the headliner.)

If you have the money, I would consider leather-upholstered carbon fiber bucket seats. A set can be had for roughly $2400 a pair.

Thanks stogey. I'm still getting used to them. They feel a bit like la-z-boys with bolsters

I do miss the headroom though.

What seats are these? I currently have the stock leather (limited) but find them a little hard and the side bolsters put too much pressure on my legs. Can't have anymore height-maxed out there too.

Dennis I would think any "good" upholstery shop could probably replace just the bottom cushion with a little more padding. It might render your heating elements unuseable, but hey....You live in Florida.
