Default Fire under hood

I am new to the forum and have a question. I own a 2005 Crossfire that is my daughters . Yesterday
she notice smoke from her ac vents . She called me and I told her to open the hood and check it . She had been driving to the store . She opened the hood and notice smoke in the area of the passenger side . As she was looking she noticed some flames and call the fire department who extinguished the fire . They told her that it was electrical . It is now sitting at the Chrysler Dealer. I was wondering if there was anybody who has heard of this happening before. Thanks for any help.

It is possible that the expense to repair the wiring may be too much and the car may be a write off.

This car may be toast, literally and figuratively,

yes, well anything is possible, maybe a rodent chewed wires. the reason I say oil leak is that I know of a local c32 customer that it happened to, he drove the car, got home, parked in his attached garage, went inside and a few minutes later the garage/house was on fire. car totaled, house messed up good, all due to neglect to fix the oil leak that was pointed out to him more than once.

Thanks fellows . Got the service manager on the phone and he believes that is started somewhere on the right firewall . He said that wiring in the firewall must have shorted . Seems hard to understand since the car is 10 + years old with no problems . It definitely going to be totaled since it is only worth about 5 to 6 thousand

Sorry to hear that but at least no one got hurt.
This is the first engine bay fire I have heard of on these.
Not knowing if someone did a previous repair or "stereo" work it's hard to say without inspecting it in person.

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your loss and I'm glad your daughter made it home safe. These cars are getting low enough in value that in some cases, a running car might be worth more in parts than selling complete, certainly in your case, looking at it as a parts car would be in the picture. Or, you might offer it to someone here on the forum who would want to tackle such a job.

"Stereo work" was my first thought, too.

With the AWFUL electrical work I've seen done on cars by "Professional" outfitters, anything is possible.

In any event, I'm sure the dealer wants to total it, since there is no way in hell THEY are going to fix it economically, nor do they know a damn thing about the car.
