Thank you both. It turned out not to be the relay v but the 50 amp BAS fuse next to the radiator fan fuse that blew and killed my brake lights.

Im trying to replace my brake relay.. When you say there is a second inner layer could you be a little more specific. Im lost and trying to do this myself.And how did you take it out. any information on how you did this would be much appreciated...

Lift the fuse box up that's under the hood.

Once this cover is removed, you will see two black relays at the firewall.
The brake relay is the one toward the center of the car, the other relay is the locking relay.
When the top cover of the fuse box is removed, you can see 2 rows of fuses, surrounded by another plastic cover. The second cover has detents at the front and both sides, press in on them and pull up on the cover from the front.
Once this cover is removed, you will see two black relays at the firewall.
