Default overkill? Opinions

Ive spent alot of time and money grooming my XF for shows and have done OK with the local ones in the area. Someone once advised me that while its looking good, the interior was lacking in the eye candy department ie.
plain Jane.

I made leather door pulls, put in SLK roll bars, dual a pillar gauges, chrome shifter bezel and satisfied my obsession with skulls by installing a chrome shifter and an e-brake skull that I must of put close to 15 hours into. Thought Id create some more pizzaz buy creating these skull door pins with jeweled eyes. They were actually bone colored rubber valve caps.

The thing is...my "over-kill" light is starting to flash. While the door pins add a hey cool check it out aspect thats good for shows, Im just not certain if it detracts from the image Im trying to create for my car. I dont want pimp, Im looking for cool. Sort of wanting just plain chrome pins like on the mustangs to give it a less in your face pop. So you show car buffs, do you think it meshes or detracts? Keep in mind, the camera got an extreme close up view. They really look pretty good in person

Overkill brings the following song to mind, Motorhead did it.

Does the eyes light up on the shifter?

no, I got the chrome one and a bone one with the eyes. Opted for the chrome one and plucked the eyes out of the other one to make it even cooler looking. they were only 6 bucks apiece on ebay.

Well, I am afraid to say I don't think it goes with this type of car. I do like the shifter but parts that scream performance would be a good choice like CF etc. You can get it in different colors to also add interest.

I agree with SRT-6 Steve; however, you have been successful with car shows to date, so follow your instincts. I would think that something like skulls that tend to evoke an emotional response in people should be used with discretion though. If you have a judge that particularly dislikes skulls or what he thinks skulls represent.... Then, you can pretty much guess what the outcome will be. My 1.5 cents.

That's a better vision. Guess I went a bit to far trying to incorporate all the hot/rat rod stuff I see at shows, into my XF. Now that I look at it, I'll most likely loose the e brake skull too.

thanks Steve

I think this is a good idea. While I think the craftsmanship you have showed in incorporating these skulls is top notch, I do not think they belong on a German luxury/sportscar. Just my opinion.
