Post Trick to Install mats?

Hi, all. I'm new here, so please forgive the n00b question: I just bought a pair of winter/slush floor mats for my 06 Roadster. Got the old ones off pretty easily, but I can't get the underside circular clip on the mounting posts. I pushed until I was pretty sure my thumbnail was going to sever the tip of my thumb; I even used a mallet to whack at it. No dice. Is there a special tool for this, or should I use some petroleum jelly, or what?
Thanks!

Don't know. Mine just pop right on and off without a problem. Maybe the hole in the tab on your new mats is too small?

Well, I bought a set of Blizzaks for it, so we'll see how that goes.

But yeah, the floor mats just won't pop on. I thought maybe I'd damaged the post, so I put the old ones back on … no problem. These are Chrysler OEM slush mats, so I don't know why they're being so difficult. Grr.

Maybe it's because the ones on the Crossfire are made for Mercedes?

Sorry to jump in but I bought some new mats for my Roadster and there is nothing holding them down - what should there be?

There are two short, round posts under each mat, close to each corner of the seat. The mats have a tab with a hole in them that pop over these posts to keep the mats in place.

They 'snap' on to hold them... if yours just fit over them they are not the correct ones for factory fitting....

I bought OEM Chrysler slush mats for my car last fall and had the same problem. If you look at the under side of the clips on the carpet mats, it has a Mercedes emblem and part number. The slush mats do not and the clip itself is different. I went to a Mercedes dealership and bought two sets of clips for an '04 SLK and replaced the ones on the slush mats. They now stay in place like they should. If you need the exact part number for the clips I bought, let me know.

Welcome to the forum, Gaelicman! I see you're from the Twin Cities. We have a great bunch of Crossfire owners up here that get together at least twice a year. We've met at Stillwater, Waconia, Lion's Tap, Alexis Bailley Winery and other places. You can search for Minnesota x-fires on this forum or go to the Midwest forum section for more info. We'll probably be getting together in the spring - maybe sometime in the winter too. Hope to see you!

I've probably got the slush mats you & others have purchased. But I've never tried snapping these into place. I just placed them on top of the factory mats to serve as protective cover for the OEM carpet set. Use them like this all year round. May have to try snapping them in tomorrow morning.

Thanks, everyone! I eventually gave up trying to mash them onto the posts; they seem to stay in place, for the most part.
Hey, winstonscifi: I'm in Hugo- not far away from Stillwater at all! Would love to meet you all, and soak up some knowledge & experience! There are tons of things I want to do with my XFire, but I am the least mechanically-inclined person on Earth.

Hugo! My wife is from White Bear Lake. I got my black coupe out today and drove it to work. It felt great. We'll have to get together with the rest of the folks sometime in the spring. Keep watching the Minnesota Xfires string in the Midwest forum. Till then, enjoy your new ride!
