A splash of Cedar, a dash of Slate

Installed the Cedar buckets/door panels yesterday with the help of Steve...

Per his recommendation, we sampled the Cedar Startech wheel with the rest of the interior virtually untouched... At first I had my doubts, but it has REALLY grown on me.

https://www.crossfireforum.org/galle...m/IMAG0714.jpg

Having seen this, it made me realize how much red was in fact present with the full interior in place... The way we have it now, it "accentuates" the steering wheel, your eyes are drawn to the rim (which was lost in the sea of red with the former interior).

https://www.crossfireforum.org/galle...m/IMAG0716.jpg

While it "pops" from the dash, it still has a tie-in with the basic color theme of the rest of the interior... Black inside red, divided by brushed aluminum.

Also, gave a breakup to the red door panels... I REALLY like the slate tweeter surrounds.

From the driver's seat, you don't see the red behind the airbag... only the red rim, and the black airbag blends beautifully with the rest of the dash.

I'm driving it for a few days like this before I make the call to keep it this way, or go with the full red. But, for the moment, I'm loving this. It says this definitely isn't your everyday Crossfire... and the Cedar seems to go with the Graphite metallic paint beautifully.

Comments welcome!

John
STOP NOW.
That looks great, I'm no fan of the cedar interior as there is just too much of it. Makes you feel like you are in a bordello, not that I've been in one. LOL
You have just the right combination now.

John,
That looks really good !!
Don't add any more cedar at all.
This is the way a cedar interior should have been done in the first place.
I'm not a big fan of the original cedar interior but with the way you have done it I like it a lot.

As Jim said....Stop, you are done ;)

Re: A splash of Cedar, a dash of Slate

Hahaha thanks for all the positive reinforcement guys!!

Kim is nuts over the look as well. This was a pretty painless conversion... took me and Steve ~3 hours, and that was including the full shampooing of the carpets and deep cleaning of the interior while the seats were out.

The car smells like a million bucks now... with a sweet scent of German leather. ;)

The Startech wheel is made from a slightly different (better) grade of leather than the seats. Not only does it have a better texture to it, but the smell is the same smell as when you open a BMW/Mercedes... as if the cows were nourished on a diet of wheat and Heife-Weizen.

I'm so glad the color combo worked out, because I was really agonizing over sending the ST wheel out for re-wrapping. Now, it can remain a genuine ST wheel.

Again, thank you all for the feedback. I have a few more subtle things I will do to the interior, but as for adding more red, I'm done.

Happy feelings? With the Crossfire you can catch most things on the road but nothing infectious. :p

I think it looks completely disconnect. Like it is two different cars.

Reminded me of an old Audi I saw at the grocery store this morning. Yellow body with blue doors.

Go back or go all the way!

Having had both interiors at one point, I prefer this over both of them.

The full-cedar was too "POW, IN YO FACE" and the all-slate was too damn depressing.

I do appreciate the honesty though!

Cheers,

John, I love the new interior..... but I would like the steering wheel better if it was just the wheel that was cedar..... the cedar back half is tooooo much for me..... GREAT job and look though!!!:D

When we do the paddle-shifter install, I am considering painting/dyeing the back half slate, since the wheel has to come off anyways. I'll have to be VERY careful, as the leather is sewn into the back half. Since that portion gets virtually no wear, I have no qualms about coloring that area... no fear of rubbing off.

I attached a pic of the back half... Anyone have the color-code for the Slate interior? I thought I recalled seeing touch-up kits in OE colors... that should suffice.

I can't wait to see it in person. When Steve told me about the wheel last night I was like HELL Yeah! but looking at the pics I'm not so sure. Thankfully it's not my worry since it's your car :)

Raise hell and have fun man

Gotta be seen in person to fully appreciate.

This setup is not at all unlike my Mandrus wheels... looks stunning in person, but there is no camera angle that gives it proper justice.

Next time you're down, I'll let you take it for a spin if you'll keep it under 170
