Anyone find a way to get the rubberized coating off...
on the interior panels? Figure I'll get around to ordering some of the Tautflex? paint. I would like to strip the old first, but don't want to damage the base plastic.
Honestly I'd leave on as much as possible... Sand the worn edges (lightly) with a 800 grit sanding block. All you really want to do is remove the "flap" of damaged vinyl.
Once you've done that, prep the area with a 50/50 mix of distilled water and Isopropanol.
Spray in light, even coats. Should come out nicely if you take your time.

hmmm... Okay, well, mine doesn't appear to really be pealing, it's more like it's just worn through. I'm assuming you've done this? Did you find it in a rattle can, or did you use an air brush or something else? I've only done a little searching, and only found it by the pint IIRC.
thanks...
thanks...
There was a thread on here recently, I'll have to dig. BoilerUPxfire posted a link to an OE-quality spray.
Might try searching dash/spray/coating in the interior section of the forum... IIRC a Canadian found it

John, Was this the paint??
I purchased some of the Viponds tautflex a couple of years ago. I found the SLK anthracite was not a perfect match to the SRT interior, so I found a local vendor, Parasol who took the time to colour match for me. Viponds would have done the same but it meant sending a panel to OZ and I wasn't up for that. Parasol managed to match to 99% correct to colour and sheen. I used the tautflex to build up the areas/scratches where the original was missing, wet sanded with 1500 any visible overlap and then sprayed the Parasol product overtop. I'm very pleased with the finish. Any of the forum members who have seen the completed job weren't aware I had re-finshed the interior until I pointed it out to them. The Parasol product appears to be more durable than OEM and so far no problems. Pics of the finished job are in my Gallery.
Yup, but keep in mind in certain light it is not 100% colour match. I was in their lab to pick -up my order and I was shown 40+ spray-out cards, just to get the match as close as they did, colour and sheen. I left my glove box door with them and they painted the final mix on one corner of the door. Indoors was a perfect match from every angle, when I held the glove box door up to the window, at certain angles I could detect a slighter grey hue to the colour, hence 99 %...........that's why I ended up taking out the interior trim panels and re-spraying everything. The Parasol is really easy to work with, and shows no overlap on spraying. The Tauflex, I applied by brush and is very thin and required several coats to build-up scratches. To do it again, I'd strip the OEM finish and go with Parasol only.
I have a few very minor fingernail scuffs in the glovebox fingerhole that I may attempt an airbrush fix. Colour match there at 99% would be fine. I think I will invest in a middle of the road Airbrush soon.
Thanks for the info.

Seriously though he did a great job on his interior. I would not have the nerve to do it.

They have my formula on file so call them or e-mail them and indicate that you want the custom colour made for my (Steve Collins) Chrysler Crossfire. I used rattle cans and minimum order is 1 imperial quart. $20 extra to put into rattle cans.
LOL......it would take him longer to move all the stuff out of the garage for the scaffold to move around than it would to paint the mural on the ceiling.
Thanks, but one more stupid question before I contact them. What was the name of the actual product you got? They list a few different products, but didn't see Tautflex on their site.
Tautflex is a Viponds product and they are in Australia. The spray product I used is Varibond made by Parasol ( Vinyl Dye, Body Filler, Leather Paint, Dye, Plastic Paint - Metal Filler, Paint Guns, Wood Filler, Best Car Wax, Fiberglass Repair) and they are in Canada. Both companies ship their products worldwide. BTW, it's impossible for you or anyone else to ask a stupid question on this forum as Fubu has the exclusive rights.

Thanks a bunch! I will be contacting them about this...
Anyone got an extra spray can of this in dark slate they might consider selling? Mine is pretty chewed up along the top of the passenger side console. I just came from the Parasol site and it says something about a six spray can minimum on custom colors.
