Cup holder would not stay in down position. Went to Walmart sports department . Bought a plastic bag with several 2oz weights in it. This fits in cup holder and the weight will hold the cup holder down.
Then go to AutoZone /Advanced Auto. They sell a plastic 3 cup holder which slides between the passenger seat and the console or it can slide in the pocket between the headrest of the seats.

I also have this problem and I certainly don't want to rip the whole thing apart. Is your weight solution still working? How much weight did you use? Thanks!

What's the point? Even if it works, it's still useless. The bin is the most useful replacement. There are several good options in cupholders that work well.

 

I love the cup holder, it wont stay down. I got the out and cleaned up but need how tos for disassembly. for now stuck the ashtray in!
