New England cruise suggestions needed!
Hey New England members,
Let's start discussing cruise options for the spring and summer. I for one would like to do a Cape Cod cruise this spring. |

I did this route in the fall of 2006. We could do it in May as an ice breaker run. We started in W.Springfield and ended in Greenfield. Went through lots of towns along the way.Lots of senic areas. Rte. is in yellow. Link of pics here: http://www.crossfirecommunity.net/De...ge%20tour%2005 |

Fun,
That link didn't bring me to any pics. |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
I gave it an edit. try it now. You might have to be a member to see them. You can also check out aschrager's gallery here for more pics.

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
It worked this time.

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Why not go down to the Cape? Traffic down there isn't bad in the spring.
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Definitely, in the first item I said I would like to have a Cape Cod cruise before the tourist season starts.
Do you have any suggestions for a great cruise up in your area? Route 1? Maybe you'll get your car out of the garage by June if all the snow melts !!;) |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Hello New Englanders! I don't currently live in NE anymore, but I grew up in Providence, RI. I love the area and love the sports teams even more. Just wanted to stop in and say GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Email me your ideas. nightrider2007@gmail.com . Cape before the crowds sound good to me. Foliage ride in NH/VT sounds great too.
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Nice route crossfire fun. a nice change is from Holyoke take Rte 202 N to Belchertown then Rte 9 east and follow the side roads or Rte 32 N around Quabbin. The Quabbin Valley at Windsor Dam is fantastic even seen eagles out there.
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
I would definetly join you guys for a cruise. I have not seen many crossfires on the roads around UMASS amherst. be a nice change to see a lot.
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
White mountain cruise. Look up rt 118, it's nothing but twists and turns and beautiful scenery. I93 to Woodstock, NH is a beautiful drive too. I used to do it with my MC buddies. I'd like to go, but before I do, the roads must be free of salt, wetness, and etc. We'll see how it goes, but usually the roads suck until lat May or June. I'll be outta here by June.

I work all over western Ma. so I keep looking for good trails to follow. I went up a mountain the other day to get to a school in Wendell, When the 2 inches of sand is gone from the road I am going to see where it goes.It looks like it could be a nice ride. A Maine ride would be fun. My wife and I go up there at least 3 times a year. Wells beach area. |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
I am sure the far western MA route is going to be great ! I would definitely like to see something closer to mid or eastern MA for my own selfish purposes. It would be almost a 3 hour trip for me to get to Chicopee.
Crossbow what do you have in mind for a trip in ME? Everybody email Nightrider with suggestions and sign-ups. |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
The Western Mass route ( or a portion of it) is great driving in the late spring. Good roads, nice scenery and not too crowded.

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Crossbow,
It seems to be very difficult to get people together for cruises. At least that is what I experienced last fall. I believe Nightrider and I will just through ideas on the forum and see what sticks. I think we will plan a couple of big ones for sure and Nightrider will inform and keep track of New England members. He has some good charity events on in the queue that will benefit veterans and their families. I am all for that!! |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Where in New England are most members from? Are members looking for a cruise "next door" to them or "its not the destination but the ride?"
I live near the casinos in Connecticut and perfer to see new places or places I don't see everyday....AND LOVE A GOOD BAR-B-Q, Would participants be interested in over nights and if so camp, resort or motel? Perfer rural, mountain or urban cruise? Maybe a historical site Brimfield flea market? Anyone know how to set up a poll on this? |

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
The first tip is a great one - a suggestion, though. Go a few miles further west and take 22 South along the NY border - beautiful country!!!
Bad news - Mt. Graylock is closed this year to redo the road - that is a great side trip going up the highest point in Mass... |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Mid May suggested cruise (Should be within mpeoples tolerable comute to start end point)
Meet at Yankee Candle in Deerfield Mass. Follow US 5 to Ascutney VT driving up the road to the top of Mt Ascutney (great view of the Connecticut River Valley) Go slightly further north to the Harpoon Brewery in Windsor (premium line...USE YOUR HEAD ON CONSUMPTION) buy lunch there or bring picnic and eat in the beer garten. (Those or good reason feel brewery bad idea there are other diners we can hit) Cross Conn River and follow Route 12 to Keene NH /Gardner MA and split at route 2 in Mass. Trip is about 150-175 miles Scenic roads and in an central location. |

Conway isn't that bad - late spring is a good time for a ride. That Kankamagus HWY is a dream ride...

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
I'm not sure if this would be too far for some of you but how about a late Spring cruise in and around Newport, RI. A nice drive down Ocean Drive (several mile stretch along the ocean) with a possible destination of touring one of the mansions. There are great restaurants and shops, we could possibly even do a harbor tour. Just an idea.

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
I'm up for almost anything, I'm just hoping to meet other Crossfire owners. I don't know of any other crossfire owners.
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
DAMSRT6 I live near Newport and Blackxfire does to maybe we can do a small cruise. Some great car shows by wickford in summer too
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
I would definitely do a Newport cruise!
We can do early spring for this one! That would also present some great photo ops for our xfires! The town at the opposite side of the Newport bridge is a nice little place and it has a great view of the bridge for a photo op! Alen, robby363 and (I assume a member named Capecod) all live fairly close. It's only about an hour to Newport for me. Great to get Nightrider over there and Fun may have a long drive though. |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Bender,
You have at least 3 members that I know of from CT. Gibsonjunkie, crossfirefun and nightrider! |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
BLACKXFIRE...how does the last Saturday of April sound to you. Beavertail State Park and Fort Weatherill State Park in Jamestown RI is extremely scenic we could hit them up for photo ops too. There are several CT and SE Mass members...don't forget our group is only a couple weeks old, and already making progress

Sorry Fun  Call me clueless!
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
No Problem Black...
My wife and I actually disussed going down to the mansions this year. It would have to wait till later though. |
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
That's too bad. It would be great for us to get together as a Crossfire group. Great photo ops at the mansions and the ocean. Jamestown is really an awesome little seaside community also! Hopefully this summer we can have a great meeting of New England Croosfires that will rival those SoCal guys!
|
Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
I'm very pleased with the responses to the Newport idea, I know that it would be a lot of fun. We could go from Jamestown, through, Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, over the Mt. Hope Bridge into Bristol for some fish and chips on the water. Great photo opportunities in all of these towns. My good friend also has an SRT-6 and would definitely be up for this cruise. It seems like we might have 5 cars together anyway and it is still very early.

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Is your friend a forum member?

Re: New England cruise suggestions needed!
Depending on the date and time I might make it at least for a greet. Looks like 115 miles and a little over 2 hours.
Might not stay for the whole thing. But then again after 11 years with the state I have lots of time off. It's my wife who doesn't. |
