Default engine management system light on

Hi All,

I own a 2004 V6 3.2 crossfire. It has 72’000 mile on the clock and recently, the check engine management system light came on. I lost total power and had to get the Spark plugs, Coils & leads replaced. This fixed the power issue but the check engine management system light came on again after about 5 minutes of driving with the engine MISFIRING when in traffic (or noticeable in traffic). I have taken to the garage that fixed the issue but they don’t know what to do next. I got another garage to look at it and they said the cables needed replacing but I explained these have already be replaced and I’ll just paid for the diagnostic. A friend has checked the cables and he said they are fine and the second garage was just trying to pull my pants down and make a quick buck or really didn’t know what he was doing and I shouldn’t go back to them! EVER!

So I’m looking for a mechanic (not a computer technician) a real mechanic who will investigate & fix the issue. Personal I’m no mechanic but from reading about MISFIRING engines I think it could be a number of things, Replace Oxygen Sensor or Replace Catalytic Convertor or Replace Mass Airflow Sensor or Replace Fuel Pump. From my understand the onboard computer doesn’t give error codes for these. But so called “mechanic’s” don’t even look into to these things I listed above. I have checked the oil level, gearbox oil and they are fine!

I contacted the main dealers and they won’t touch it without a complete service history from a main dealer! Its 12 years with 4 owners and I was never give the service manual.

I don’t mind if the car is off the road for a month or two while this get investigated and I’m fully ready to scrape the motor, if a REAL mechanic looks into these issues and says he can’t find/fix the problem but finding a garage/mechanic who can actually do this is impossible!

I love the car and want to keep it and wont scrape it until a REAL mechanic and checked it out! I know it can be fixed!

If anyone has any thoughts or can recommend a garage or mechanic, I would for ever be in your debt!

Thanking everyone is advance!

If the check engine light is on it should be showing a code.

If the car is driveable take it to Advance Auto Parts AutoZone or O'Reilly's Auto Parts and have them hook up their scan tool and tell you what the trouble code is and then report back here to The Forum and let us know what the code is and then someone will help you.
