Hi

I'm Paul Farmer and my love for the crossfire started when I first saw the prototype at the NEC Birmingham UK, I think it was early 2000's maybe 01/02.

I almost got 1 in 08 to take with me to Cyprus, where I now live, but the owner changed his mind and we ran out of time to search for another.

From there I was only able to admire the Crossfire from afar, and that was infrequent as there was only a handful on the island, mainly in the South (Greek side) and I live on the Turkish side.

I've been looking for a few years waiting for something to come on the market, my original preference was an auto-coupe in white, but it became clear I was never gonna be in a position to cherry-pick.

The problem here is to import a car it can be a max 5 years old or 20+ which is classed as a classic, and the crossfire doesn't fit into either of those categories

So I'm now off to look at the first 1 crossfire to come on the market in the last 5 years, unfortunately, it's a cabriolet but it is auto, a case of beggars can't be choosers is how I've reconciled it.

With my love for the coupe in mind Iwas wondering if there any aftermarket electric metal roofs available (I know I'm dreaming)

Wish me luck

Speak soon
Paul

No metal roofs for the Crossfire roadsters, only fabric and they can be troublesome with window detachment and mechatronic issues. Pizzaguy is the resident expert to problem solve. The SLK (R170 chasiss) is what you want if you must have a folding metal roof. Good luck with the purchase

New tops, if needed, are reasonable from BAS International in the UK.

Thanks bud.
I hear what you're saying regarding the folding roof on the SLK but the older version doesn't have the looks of th Crossfire

Years ago I mentioned that I knew of a very qualified establishment that could build a fiberglass removable roof that could be installed on the Crossfire roadster. It would look like the original removable top that was available on the Corvette from the late 50's (that would follow the lines of Crossfire Roadster quite nicely I would think. It was met with very little interest so I never brought it up again. The custom fabrication shop is still in business and I've personally employed them to do a one-off all steel hood for my Crossfire back in 2007, and the craftsmanship looked like it was "Factory" built. I can only imagine how good of a job they are capable of if they were given the task. I promise, it wouldn't be inexpensive for sure, but i know it would be fantastic looking, and functional.

Is the price comparable to a new top from BAS International? The market might be larger now that tops are getting old. If the price was right, I would be interested.

Unfortunately the roof was the least of my problems, I went in expecting there to be a few problems, but the deeper I look the more I found, broke my heart but I had to walk away. I would probably have perceived with the car had it been a coupe but it wasn't and so I didn't.

Out of interest how much did it cost you for your custom metal roof, I was a bit confused because you mentioned a fibreglass option then mentioned a steel 1 was sourced, either way what do you recon this cost would be today? Be good to know for future reference.

I'm trying to put my 2007 Roadster in shape as my main vehicle and I figured this was the place that I would find knowledgeable people. Maybe even some close to my location. Tim over

The attached link contains a listing of Florida Crossfire owners, with AMX1397 (Jim) as the originator of the list. You may want to send him or other Florida members for information/assistance with your Crossfire issues.
Good Luck....
