Changing tweeters without taking the panel door off
To be able to replace door mounted tweeters you do not need to take off the inside door panel. See below how I replace them.
Also you want to replace those original tweeters with some inexpensive, but quality tweeters.
First you need to take off the trim where the tweeter is located. Start from the bottom and slowly take the trim off. You do want to brake the clips in process.
After you see the tweeter. You do not need to take the screw door off.
Now push the tweeter inside all the way. The tweeter body slides back on this round tube channel.
Now grab the tweeter from inside, and position side ways to be able to be taking off the door. Pull it all the way, but be carefully with the wires behind the tweeter. After is out you can measure with the ohm meter the tweeter directly and will be about 3.3 ohm. In my case the tweeter coil is good but tweeter still not working. If you measure the connecting wires before the tweeter capacitor will be about 2.2 ohm and this is the woofer coil. The green capacitor shown in the picture, part of the tweeter assembly have the value of 3.3uF nonpolarized. We will reuse this capacitor, but if this is defective then you have the value needed.
Now use a soldering gun and take just the tweeter off, keeping the capacitor. Be carefully not to touch with the soldering gun the inside door panel!
After install the new tweeter. The capacitor will go to the red tab, and the ground wire to the other tab.
The new tweeter I use is the 6 ohm (Dayton Audio, 1inch, Neodymium magnet). Part: ND20TA-6. If you use a different tweeter the capacitor value may need to be adjusted.
Now turn the CD on and test the new tweeter before you install it on the door. Make sure the connecting wires do not touch the metal frame door.
The new tweeter body is smaller then the door tube diameter, so I use some doable way tape on the tweeter body and the side flange of the tweeter. Make sure you clean up the door plastic for the tape to attached well.
Push the tweeter in on the double way tape.
Now you can install the door trim back.
I still have few more tweeters. If somebody want to buy please let me know and I can have them on E-bay.
