So, the crossfire is due back next August, and I'm already brainstorming what to buy next summer...

Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG



For some reason, I just can't stop drooling over this car. Maybe it's because I'm driving a rebadged SLK now, but I can't seem to get over the whole package this car delivers. Performance, luxury, style, AND it's a hard-top convertible...how can you pass that up??

So, aside from the insane price tags associated with these cars, what do you think?

I went to a "premier" dealer out here in the Midwest that sells both Porsche and MB, since I'm stuck in Kansas City for work until February. It was only an hour before they closed, but he said I'm welcome to come back and take the 911's out for a test drive (and I'm sure any MB I wanted). I'm trying to hold myself off as long as possible from driving anything (maybe spring?) so I don't go insane and buy something before I'm ready.


***Btw, I've seen more crossfires here in Kansas City in the last 3 months than I've seen in the last 2 years at home.

 

If you can afford it I say get the SL55 more money but wow!

I would love to have an SL55 and a viper if I had the $$$.
I drove an sl500 and loved it, I did not beat it as It was not mine...but dam it was nice. I can only imagine how fast and responsive the sl 55 is.
I have driven the slk line too but not the 55 just the 3.2 amg(like the srt) It was a blast.
I got the limited crossfire due to price 23k out the door new back when they were giving cars away.
I believe the slk is lighter than the sl so the slk could be more nimble...Oh hell get all three and let us know what you think.

The SL500 is now the SL550 for 2007. It has more power and is definitely a gorgeous car, but for $30K more, it's not any faster. Since it weighs significantly more, the SLK55 AMG with less power is actually faster. Now, the SL55 AMG is a different story, but it's also double the price! If I really need that much power, you can go the same route aftermarket for 15-20K and save $45K over the SL55 AMG!

$63,275 (slk55) vs. $95,575 (sl550) vs. $129,575 (sl55)...

me too... thinking of getting a new car... i kinda like the slk 55 myself. i think i'll hold out a little bit longer though. bugatti's coming out with a car around that price that is probably a better buy.

 

good choice I would also go with the SLK over everything else from your choices MB Style cannot be beat.

Now that's a Ferrari...absolutely beautiful. I think they're gone over the top recently with the F50 and Enzo, this is fantastic. Pick me up one too since we're spending other peoples money.

 

i actually was deciding between those two cars slk55 and viper...and decided on viper, i will be purchasing mine as soon as i sell the xf.

but as far as the crossfire being popular in the kc area...very true...i have business in overland park every few months, and i see about 5 a day, along with 5 porsches, and an exotic every day...take the 20 minute drive from kc to opt and see what i mean.

 

You have an amazing list and the SLK is an amazing ride, kinda looks like a mini SLR McClaren IMO but how can resist the ZO6.

Probably a used 2nd gen...that's the body style I fell in love with at the age of like 10... I've considered a new srt for the interior but the exterior is very bland and boring...but it is easy to resist a new z06, I see them everyday. I'm sure wings feels the same way.

 

Hey what's the latest news on the Challenger, when is it coming out? What motor options will it have?

 

no news, but i think a new '09 camaro ss will replace the g6 for the family car.

 

The new camaro isn't half bad, considering I never really liked the latest one before they discontinued it. It's funny, when the new Z06 came out I swore I'd buy one when I could afford it. That was a huge statement from me after swearing that I'd buy a Viper when I could afford it, heh. I've been obsessed with them for the last 8-10 years as well. Just like you said though, the body style over the last few years has kind of killed it for me. The latest coupe is a 'little' better, but I would have given anything for this...





For some reason I've shifted into wanting a mix of luxury and sport over pure unbridled performance. However, it still has to be a 2-seater...

 

yea i feel you, but when all is said and done i would want to trade the slk55 in after a year tops. and i will keep the viper for a good amount of time.

 

I agree, Mercedes makes some gorgeous cars. My wife and I have had our eyes on a Benz for a little while. With the new boy another two-seater just doesn't seem the way to go.
