Default SRT-10 opinions???

Thinking of buying an SRT-10 pick up. Just wondering if anyone here had anything they could share, thoughts, known problems, like or dislike? Found a greet deal on a quad cab w/ only 6k miles on it. These things have dropped like a rock from their sticker price when new, that sounds familiar huh?

Make sure that you invest in a local gas station, because at less than 10 mpg around town, you'll need it. They are a very hot truck none the less. Good luck with your decision.

Yeah I know about the mileage. Hey but it gets 15 on the highway!

I have heard that they are reliability nightmares and that service is unbelievably expensive (out of warranty).

I considered an SRT10 also, although a regular cab.

A lot of power, but a lot of weight too. 500 HP, but also around 5,000 pounds. The power to weight ratio is actually about the same as an SRT6 Coupe.

I still like the SRT10 though, just not sure if I would buy one.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

Yeah I know they are heavy. Especially the quad cab. I've seen 13.5 sec 1/4 mile times, so maybe a tick or two slower than the SRT-6. I really like the single cab, for it's lighter weight, but I found a steal of a deal on a quad cab. Selling for regular cab price and with only 6k miles on it. The guy is asking $29,500 or best offer. thats' for a truck that had a $55k sticker new. Ouch.

Yeah I don't know what has happened to the SRT line as a whole but the prices have dropped drastically in just a years time. It cannot be just the gas price excuse...there must be more to it. I know the auto industry is down but you would think they would at least hold the value a little longer.

i have been considering on of these as well, there are numerous new '05 - '06 still sitting at dealers nation wide. the only draw back is buying a truck that can not be driven year round. other than that i would jump all over one.

ws6vert, that sounds like a heck of a deal on the SRT10. It would be nice to have a 'hot rod' with a pickup bed. If you plan on hanging on to it for a long time, it may be a good purchase.

FYI. One of my father's friends has a Viper that is out of warranty (not by mileage, by time). Apparently a few weeks ago he noticed some fluid on the garage floor and took it in to the local Dodge dealer. From what I understand it needed a new transmission seal and a rear differential service. The bill came to almost $6,000 - ouch. I haven't talked to him to get more information, but that frightened me away from the Ram SRT10.

FWIW - there is a dealer here in Texas advertising new 2005 SRT-10 Quad cabs (0 miles) for $34,999. They have five on the lot. I bet you could get them down to $34,000 or even less. Not sure if we can post links to dealers on the site, but I can send it along if you want.

I am not affiliated with this dealer, though I did buy my SRT-6 from them and was able to get a thousand knocked off their advertised price of $29,999 on that (and their price was already $2K lower than the dealers in my town for new SRT-6s). It was worth the flight out (I drove it home).

Most regular cabs with low miles online are $28k and up. I found one in ATL with 4,600 miles for $26,688. I'd pay $25k for it tops.

I've got one of these. Like most performance vech. you're gonna have some expense to go along with maintenance and upkeep, but it's not outrageous and generally speaking, is cheaper than repairs to an actual Viper (it is a truck after all). Also, there are some issues more along the lines of a few weird or lemon vehicles, biggest "class" issue would be need to retorque the balancer pulley bolt, some vibration at speed due to the tires (bad production, but not all experience this) and weak clutches on the 6spd (closely associated with your driving styles) but all in all, a great truck. They can be had real cheap these days, and aftermarket support is fairly decent. I belong to another forum for the truck (VTCOA.com) lots of info and some trucks for sale too. (at least 2 that are supercharged). Any questions, drop me a line.
