GM in talks to buy Chrysler?
Just wanted to update everyone.
Earlier today I ran across an article on Money.CNN.com that stated GM may purchase Chrysler. When I went back to look for the article, I couldn't find it.
Later this evening I was watching TV when a local MI news preview came on stating the same.
I watched the news and it was the lead story. DC and GM execs would not return calls regarding the subject, but inside sources confirmed the talks.
I'll keep the forum posted on what I hear. If anyone else has better and/or more recent news - please post.

This was discussed extensively Wednesday on CNBC.
The so called experts concluded that it made no sense for GM to be interested in Chrysler. GM is trying to build more cars away from America.
Buying Chrysler would not help in that attempt.

Buying Chrysler will not make GM #1. Just take a look at Toyota, they don't own 15 car brands. Toyota has been kicking *** with Lexus and it's peasant version, same goes for Honda.
Not to mention the Asian automakers are subsidized by their own country, they don't have all the worries of GM, Ford and Chrysler.

ha... if gm buys chrysler maybe they will get ford...2 for one deal; i can't see gm investing in a another money pit. but if they do i want to be the first in line for the cudacamaro or the silverrango...ok everybody join in...
I don't understand one thing...how can GM buy anybody when they too are financially struggling? Since we are on the subject IF that did occur would it be good for Chrysler or bad? What are everyone's thoughts on that?
I just hope it doesn't happen.
Considering that my father has been working for Chrysler faithfully for around 15-20 years (I do not know exactly) this would be devastating to my family.
If Chrysler was bought out by GM, they'd move most of the part-making to Delphi (I believe) and since my Dad is a die-maker, he would most likely lose his job, or transfer there and make less then 1/2 the money he makes at Chrysler.
We really wouldn't know what to do if that happened, I for one wouldn't be able to keep my Crossfire!
So, buy Chrysler cars and don't buy foreign. =D
