wow... and they say German cars are over priced? who in their right mind would pay such a price for such an old piece of junk.... when you can purchase the buggati veyron for half that... this car is just disgusting with a bunch of written names on it and one horrid looking interior... not to mention it has been used in movies and at race tracks...

"The most famous model of the most famous car in the world!" Its not all about speed/being the fasted production car. Its a collectors item.

most famous model of the most famous car in the world?!?!? Sorry have not heard of it before... and no its not all about speed/ being the fastest production car, but it is about styling, performance, technological advancements, and comforts, which in my opinion this car lacks...

and if it is so much about a collectors item... why doesn't something like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bentl...QQcmdZViewItem

sell for ridiculous amounts of money as it is more exclusive and probably more of a collectors item than a dodge charger can ever be... and besides this dodge charger is neither stock nor in a very good condition...

its just an old charger with some modifications done to it that has been featured in some movie that is not world known at all... while on the other hand charlie chaplin is world known...

Sidez,
Have you ever watched the Barrett-Jackson auctions on the Speed channel?
It's more of the same.

You can't tell the market what should be a collector's item, that's exactly what a market does. Well, you can influence the market if you have lots of advertising dollars and whatnot, but you saying that Chaplin's car is more of a collectors' item than a beat-up Charger you've never heard of is ridiculous. The proof is what you're complaining about: the price of the bids. Clearly the eBay memorabilia/car market disagrees with you. You can think that's silly, but you can't argue with what the market defines as true.

another example... okay the bid is up to 4 mil already and the last sting ray sold for...$660,000 to me this does not make any sense at all...

and by the way I am not complaining about anything... no idea why you would state it that way... I am just questioning how someone and not just someone, (but many others that are actively bidding on the car)... can offer such a price for such an item...

PS. Charlie Chaplin is definitely more world known than "Dukes of Hazzard" TV Show... I am sorry if that offends you, but I think that... is quiet hard to argue...

I have what some may call a "love/hate" relationship with EBAY. I love the great deal I got using EBAY when I purchased my new Crossfire just over two years ago, and I hate the BS, and Bogus auctions that some people "stage" on EBAY from time to time just to artificially drive up prices on certain vehicles.
John Schneider (BO Duke himself) can look you straight in the eye and tell ya this ain't no scam, but remember, he's an actor, and pretending is what actor's do for a living. I have no doubts he wants to unload his car for the highest price he can get out of it. Actually, the auction probably isn't a scam, but that doesn't mean "any" of the unbelievable bids that are being made are real.
The same goes for some of those so called "million dollar" cars that Barrett Jackson just loves to promote. Not everything you see on TV is real. (Just ask Derek "HDDP".
Even if his car doesn't sell, people, magazines, newspapers, radio, whatever will report that his "General Lee" was bid up to such-n-such price, and suddenly every "General Lee" replica will be worth 100's of Thousands of dollars. Well, at least to any of those "Dukes of Hazzard" wanna-be's.
If the car does actually sell for supposedly millions, there is a no proof that the buyer really paid that amount unless "John Schneider" claims his profit on his federal income tax, and I doubt if any of the general public will ever get a chance to see that. But still, a seed is planted, and a "Legend" is born.
