Default Sebring vs. "C" class

I recently came upon this scene: a Mercedes Benz C class trying hard to look as good as a 2007 Chrysler Sebring Limited sedan. I know the Sebring is based on the Mitsubishi Lancer platform but these cars look pretty similar to me. They're roughly the same size and have similarly shaped headlights and grilles. Yet, the automotive press and the haters would have us believe that the Sebring is a monstrosity while the C class is elegant. I just don't see it. The Sebring is visually more interesting and who wouldn't want heated and cooled cupholders?

Between these two, I'd take the Sebring.

LOL, you've got to be kidding, right? If not, I want some of that stuff you're smoking.

I don't think the headlights look alike, either. Sorry.

Got the photo uploader to work.

Similarly-shaped headlight cluster, grille, and body size. They're practically twins!

The only thing I'm high on is that fabulous Sebring styling!

Really?!? Both cars have two lights with a big one on the outside and a smaller one on the inside. When you get close, sure, there are differences, but the design themes are similar. Same with the grilles.

Oh. Okay. I see what you're saying in the picture that you posted. Different headlights than the ones I posted a picture of. The one I posted still had the "peanut" headlights. But, it said it was a 2007. Headlights and grille sort of look the same.

Sorry, I'd NEVER take a Chrysler over a Mercedes. The only reason why I have a Crossfire is because of the Mercedes in it. I'll never have another Chrysler unless it's a Dodge Ram 2500.

In this month's Car & Driver, or Automobile, or Motor Trend (can't remember which one) - the testers note that the Sebring and C-class are hard to tell apart.

Now the 2 cars are not twins by any means, but they do share some styling characteristics (IMO).

I'm indifferent to the Mercedes content in the Crossfire. I'd own one whether it had MB in it or not. Before my XF, I had a Sebring convertible. It was a stylish, reliable, and comfortable car. Given what Consumer Reports has had to say about MB reliability lately, we should be grateful for the Chrysler bits.

Anyway...my point is, from the front, the new Sebring and the C class are similar yet the Sebring's styling is judged far more harshly than the bland Mercedes. I think Chrysler-hating explains the bulk of the differing reactions to similar designs.

Don't be a Sebring hater; be a Sebring appreciater!

Your Pacifica looks better than the Mercedes Benz SUV. The Pacifica has some character to it. The MB SUVs are just as bland and inoffensive as the C class. This makes them excellent choices for hauling cans of beige paint to the McMansion.

You can be grateful that you live in an age when the beautiful 2007 Sebring sedan roams the roads. Billions of humans lived and died never knowing what one looks like (unless, of course, they'd seen a Mercedes Benz C class).
