While considerably more expensive, at least for now, than the Zap you linked to I believe the Tesla Roadster is faster, has a longer range, and most likely handles better overall. Built on a modified Lotus Elise chassis you see. Tesla is, I think, the cutting edge in 100% electric transportation right now. They have a sedan in the works as well.

 

electric motors can create quick and extremely high torque. There was a show on that had an electic motor hooked up to a moped. I forgot what they were trying to do...it was too much power and just spinning the wheels.
