Default Chrysler Develops Dual-Clutch Auto-Transmission

Just wanted to let you guys know about this awesome new development in the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep lines.

It's a new transmission that uses a dual clutch system. Chrysler will be the first company to utilize it. Mercedes has been trying to develop it for years but with no success (so said.)

This could just be Mercedes using Chrysler as the guinea pig to test it out before they release it in Mercedes products (like they are doing with MDS).

Either way its a great product. Increases fuel economy by 6% and 0-60 by 1 to 2 seconds.. Thats the difference between a Crossfire and a Viper..

It's about time they do it since VW/Audi has been using it in their cars since '06. The 6 speed DSG in those cars are quicker than the manuals. That dual clutch setup is so awesome and if our cars had them, we would spank others even more so. My friend has an '06 GTI 2.0t with just a CAI, exhaust and chip running 13.7's on stock tires with the DSG. So hopefully Chrysler gets it right too.

Actually, yes. The A-727 Torqueflight found on a bunch of muscle cars back in the 60s and 70s was nearly indestructible, even when mated to torque monsters like the 440 6 pack and 426 Hemi

You do realize that they were from almost 40-50 years ago right?

Not knockin' MOPAR, but I'll believe it when I see this tranny wil miles on it.

Yes, of course I do. But your question was, and I quote: "has Chrysler ever been known for transmissions" (italics mine)

Had you specified a certain timeframe my answer would have been altered accordingly, but you said ever so, there you have it.

Chrysler patented the design of this transmission in 2000, around the time Daimler bought them out and then Daimler put the project on hold like just about everything else cool Chrysler tried to do.
