Default New Toy!!!

just bought an '88 Esprit. have been hunting for a while (2-3 years) and was originally headed for an Elise, but i loved the Esprit growing up and this one was just too good to pass:

He originally tried to sell it on ebay a few times, but it never went thru. pictures just dont do it justice; its in so much better condition than i originally thought by looking at the auction (well, the interior still needs alot of love):
Lotus : Esprit : eBay Motors (item 260577905422 end time Apr-06-10 09:23:24 PDT)

I pick it up next week

really nice Rob, think you got a great buy off the Bay, which I'm terrified to do for bigger purchases but this one looks like a champ!

Very nice. Did he tell you why the engine had to be rebuilt with only 40k miles on the ticker?

for some strange reason, the submarine option was discontinued for '88! haha nice catch though.

someone else actually asked during the auction... alternator belt came off and knocked the timing belt off. Engine was completely rebuilt with new pistons, valves, lifters, etc.

going to be a long week of waiting!

Very beautiful car. I do not know much about the Lotus, but the wheels really caught my eye. It is interesting that the center of the rear wheels are concave while the fronts are convex. I am not sure if I have seen anything like that before. Or, is it just my eyes playing tricks on me? Congrats on obtaining a beautiful piece of history.

Congrats on the beautiful car. I drove my friends turbo and it is a great ride. Always wanted one since I worked on them at Indy.

Very nice, and Congrats! That's one sharp ride. I don't know much about the Lotus though, what kind of power does that turbo put down?

your eyes are right, the rears are concave. The brakes are actually inboard (underneath the car, right next the transmission), so the concave wheel makes up for the big difference in offset. The 89's and up have a different transmission and a more normal outboard brake setup with non-concave wheels.
