Daily Drivers
For those of us who like to tenderly use our 2-seat, performance Mercs, (under fifty miles a year in my case), we are in need of a more practical vehicle for our regular transportation needs. In my view, a German sports car should be complimented by a German sedan. This role is suited for no less than an Audi. The tiny Mercedes 2-seat coupe and the Audi luxury sport sedan look great together. I like BMW as well, but for the 3 series coupes as touring vehicles. I would love a black e36 (1990's) coupe with a 2.8 and a 5 speed. That is really my favorite Bimmer/2nd favorite car ever (tied with the B5 A4's) like the SLK/Crossfire is my favorite Mercedes and really my favorite car ever. However, when it comes to all other Audi's, I like them better than all other Mercs or Bimmers, excluding those listed above of course. In my garage, Mercs will be silver, Bimmers will be black, and Audis will be white or rarely blue. Audi really is my favorite brand and a lot of it has to do with the Quattro All Wheel Drive System. A sports car is typically used in optimal conditions, so a daily driver complimenting such a car should be able to go through frozen hell...........but Quattro likes to eat it!! That car will go through anything. Meanwhile inside the car, you find a cozy and luxurious interrior. Audis may not be as fast or turn as tight or have bodies as slick as Mercs, but they can go through storms and terrain that only a Subaru can arguably follow through. When compared to the faster streamline Merc, Audis have a more blocky and more classy looking design, the interriors are heavier and more hearty, the steering is smoother, and the seats are more comfortable. In a nutshell, compared to MB, Audi sacrifices some performance to excell in adverse conditions in maximum comfort. Neither is better than the other, they simply do different jobs. Frankly, I couldn't imagine my life without both of them. Rivalries are competative and bitter, but Mercedes, BMW, and Audi look best with the others present. That is why I love my B5 Audi A4 Quattro for a daily driver. What daily drivers do you all have and what would your ideal daily driver for your Crossfire, assuming it differs from the one you own?
When we retired and bought our first motorhome, I bought a 2004 Subaru Forester turbo 5 speed. It has 60K on the clock and about the same behind the motorhome. For the wife's transportation, we've had an '89 Taurus SHO (first edition with 5 speed), GT Mustang, A4 Audi, A6 Audi, twin turbo, and until we moved from WA to FL, an '08 Chrysler 300. Now we're down to the Subie for daily transportation, and outside of replacing both rear wheel bearings, it's been a no maintenance vehicle. And it still goes like stink. The wife says she's tired shifting gears and wants something like her 300. I think she needs an SRT.....Auto, right? bigger trunk...right? I'm looking at 300s anyway...
My SRT6 is my daily driver. Can't picture myself driving anything else.
Actually I would love to have a Mercedes E55 as our family sedan. My wife currently drives a Pontiac Grand Am.
08 300c AWD with a Diablo Tune, AEM cold air intake, SLP Loud Mouth exhaust, Eibach lowering springs, Discitalia drilled and slotted rotors, MGP caliper covers. Plus a few other mods. Lets just say I love the get out of my way look and sound.
I once passed a snow plow on the right side in a B5 A4 with Blizzaks in a good storm. The next day I drove by the same spot and noticed I had passed him in the DITCH! The only winter car better than a B5 A4 would be a B5 S4!
Had an almost brand new Grand Prix GT before my first XF and it was going to be the winter queen, but even in the winter, I could not stop driving the XF, so I sold the pontiac after sitting for several months.
We still have a large AWD SUV and I am currently looking at a B7 A4 quattro 1.8 to add to the stable, but still worried I will miss driving the XF on a daily basis...

2002 Chrysler Concorde Limited 3.5 HiOutput. Black, of course, with dark grey leather and them fancy 17" fake chrome wheels.

After having two Crossfires-one a roadster, we got tired of bringing home only one tomato plant at a time, lol. So we located one of the best years for the turbo PT Cruisers, an '03 with the Getrag 5 speed manual stick. It's also a project car, slowly but surely, turning it into a two seat with a cargo deck rear area and other cosmetic goodies.
I prefer to save driving the SRT-6 for special occasions. My Expedition is my DD. I like sitting high when I'm dealing with heavy traffic.

My 07 Roadster is my daily...except when severe weather or snow is possible. Otherwise I use a beat up 1994 Ford Ranger I got when my father-in-law passed...great little truck, but it doesn't have a lot of pep or life left in it.
My Driveway looks like a car lot , 02 Frontier CrewCab, 07 Ford Edge AWD , 96 Cavalier . I drive the chevy because it gets great gas milage and its a 80 mile round trip to work for me.. ..But they aint no 6 ..... its the garage bomb.
