Default New Car R500

We swapped out our loaded Pacifica Limited for a loaded Mercedes R500 CPO over the holidays. My second Mercedes vehicle. It's essentially the same thing as the Pacifica conceptually with a whole nother level of execution. 7 speed automatic with paddle shifters and a V8 engine. It's a great family hauler for vacations and ski trips. But, like the Pacifica it's one of Mercedes failures in the marketplace. Depreciation slope on these was steeep!

Actually it's a featherweight 4,917 lbs according to the brochure. A porker for sure. But the thing is the best family hauler I've ever driven. Especially up here in New England winters. The R Series was a weird mix of station wagon, minivan, SUV, luxury car, and sports sedan that left consumers scratching their heads and hugging their wallets.

Nice ride, I have always secretly liked them, especially with a little aftermarket modification...

Yeah, believe it or not they made an AMG version for 1 or two years, the R63 AMG. It had a 6.2L V8 500HP / 465 lb ft and slightly quicker diff gears. I believe they quoted the 0-60 time at 4.6 seconds. A bit hilarious but probably fun beating a Z-car off the line with your AWD crossover minivan land barge. Be the first car to the beach parking lot.

Yes, sir. It is almost as sleeper as my friend's ML63, destroying mid level sports cars with that 5K+ pound beast was sure fun
