Anyone know these cars? 2004 VW GTI VR6
I and the boy (if he won't-I will) are looking at one of these in good shape as a DD with a little fun factor. Edmunds and others give it 1 4.5 or 5 star.
I, for many easons, think I can get it for ~ $4000, but will need some easy-to-do work.
I'd be replacing my detested 2000 Accord refrigerator, the boy would reduce usage/miles on his Challenger.
Comments?

I don't know anything about the car, but I'm a big advocate of buying inexpensive (under market value) cars so that you have immediate equity, especially if the repairs are fairly simple and affordable. Every day I drive the Saab I retain the value of my XF and live free of worry about the normal wear and tear.
The GTI is a great car. Not the most fuel efficient. In 2008 Volkswagon made about 5000 High Performance AWD models called the R32. I've always liked them. Unfortunately they retain their value fairly well so they are not for the bargain hunter.....but what a car.

Can't help you Max. One of my sons has a Jetta TDI diesel turbo. He loves the car. Quiet and unthinkable fuel mileage. Their service dept has been excellent as well for him. Only thing I know about VW.

Sorry, bud Wrong age and ethnic background...
Great cars on the fun to drive catagories and as long as you don't mind turning a few wrenches from time to time you will love it.
My second oldest has 3 vr6 and 1 r32 that he races.

Well, I (my car) got spanked by Austins new/used car. 2007 GTi Farenheit. APR Stage 2 tuned. 300+ at the wheels.
I'm close, but he creeps away...fat car. He can now whoop me in 2 cars. Grrrrr.
Got it for ~ $3K under KBB, but $1100 worth of 100K maintenance later...
Thanks for your input, folks. That's why this is such a great forum!
