I never appreciated the amazing level of technology in the original Mercedes 'Gullwing' until I watched this video (I've linked directly to the good part to save you time). I didn't know that it featured DIRECT GASOLINE INJECTION straight into the cylinder (NOT into the intake tract) just like a modern 21st century vehicle! And just as we've found with that technology today, Mercedes in the 1950's recommended removing the cylinder-head for de-coking every 20K miles!! The 'Gullwing' used exactly the same fuel injection technology as the Daimler-Benz 601 aircraft engine used in WW2. But there's much more than that. The 'Gullwing' was 100% a road-going race car!!
