18" Rear Rims for Autocross
In case you’re interested. The SCCA has been petitioned and approved 18" rims for the back of the Crossfire for solo2 stock autocross classes do to the fact that 18" rims are called out in the owners manual for snow tire use.
I went to my first club meeting with the http://www.tidewatersportscarclub.com/ and was informed by the event sponsor that the club president was a crossfire owner running DS. He is the one who ran the petition and now runs 18" on the rear as a result. There is an event this weekend, if he is their I will speak with him and attempt to get a copy of his documentation.
I don't mean to rain on your parade but I wrote a letter regarding this to Doug Gill of the SCCA and he sent me back a letter saying that you are not allowed to run the 18s and the issue had been resolved two years ago by the SEB ruling on it. I don't think I have a copy of the letter anymore.
What I was told is that this is a very new ruling change; hopefully it's not just a local or regional allowance. I will dig into it as soon as I can get in touch with club president. I'm holding off buying rims and rubber until I have the most recent documentation one way or the other. Thanks.
I spoke with the president of the local car club here in Norfolk Va. today. He stated that the 18” rims that he runs on the back of his Crossfire were owned by Frank Miller who competed a DS Crossfire at the National level. Frank was protested at a National event, he won the protest overturning previous decisions regarding 18” rims on the rear of a Crossfire. This event evidently occurred with in the last 18 months. He had no additional information.
